Smart Complex/Homes under providing
I've noticed my Smart Complexes and Homes which promise 12 and 4 respectively only provide 10 and 2 residential spaces. Anyone else notice this?

I have no MODS yet and play on Linux. Thanks

You may have had an event that reduced their max. People complain about crowding and you can choose to lower the max occupancy in exhange for higher comfort, and avoiding a hit to morale.

I may be wrong but don't think that is the problem. After being built they advertise 10 and 2 instead of the 12 and 4 advertised before being built. Thanks for the reply though I will check it out when I re-boot the game.

I could be wrong, as I don't remember that affecting smart homes (think it was residences when I had that event last). I do recall that it reduced the max number by 2 though.

Smart homes are residences. That event is what you are experiencing.

That event is a trade off.

If you choose to give up living space for more comfort then you permanently lose the living space and gain comfort for housing.

If you tell them to suck it up you receive a one time penalty of -20 comfort.

A trade-off? When? Where? was it mentioned that I would be suckered into building expecting room for 12/4 residents but only receive 10/2? I'm wondering if maybe you misread.

It aint mentioned except during the event. Even then it just says "homes provide less homes" or something.

While the comfort bonus is nice, the loss of living space sucks when you aint prepared for it.

Haven't heard of "it" but that must explain why after my careful calculations and extra room for babies to be born I started showing "homeless." Thanks.

Yep, and exactly why I took the "suck it up buttercup" option with the comfort penalty. I pinned a colonist after the event and the -20 comfort was a one time thing.
