Magnetic shields working ?
Hey all.

To "improve" the atmosphere we can lauch a shield to decrease the loss you made. But i can not see it did anything !

in the hower menu, i can see that i got 1 shield, and i got the event message that the mission went well. But what exactly does it do? for me it looks like nothing ? and only the "magnetic field generator" helps in reducing the loss.

Anyone have info on this ?

the magnetic shield is a concept by which a deployed structure will absorb or redirect solar winds from the sun and prevent them from stripping the atmosphere.
The earth has a magnetic field which prevents that.
You can see the effect on earth up north, the aurora borealis is redirected solar wind.

Sorry but that made no sense as to what i asked.

Read your first sentence. Then read my first sentence.

But i still dont see it did anything to decrease the amount i am loosing!

If you hover over the terraforming variables on screen, they will tell you whats going on and what is preventing loss and how much per day. The sheild should be listed there with the GHG generators.

You need to look before and after the mission completes. Each magnetic shield reduces loss by 0.1% per sol. It's not listed anywhere explicitly, unlike magnetic generators.

if you hover over the atmosphere cloud on the top of the screen you will see the effect and percentage.

You don't. You see atmosphere production, you see atmosphere lost into space, you see protection from magnetic generators, but not the one from magnetic shields.

TBH, all that's needed is to convert the counter for "number of magnetic shields" into a counter for loss prevention from magnetic shields, since that's what people are looking for.

I can confirm that the magnetic shield planet project does not reduce the atmosphere loss. The Building does, but the project that removes a rocket does not reduce atmospheric loss currently, looks like a bug.

yes, as far as i have read on the games forum, this project is not working corectly. So i guess i will just build some more buildings on mars :-)

It definitely works for me, but just isn't displayed properly. Looking at atmosphere loss just before and just after the mission completes, the loss of atmosphere is 0.1% smaller.

I got Atmosphere to 100% with just 2 carbonate processors and 2 magnetic generators.

If it is 0.1% for you, then it can easily get rounded to no visible change at all. In which case the project still needs a buff though.

I got to 100% with 3 magnetic shields, 2 magnetic field generators, 3 carbonate processors.
For reasons of reorganizing everything and because I was at 100% already I didn't think the 100% would go back down, but it did. When I noticed, I had 1 Carbonate processor, 4 magnetic field generators and the same 3 magnetic shields. This means we can't less than a number of buildings for this or the atmosphere will go back down?

I also noticed that when you hover over the "cloud" percentage, it shows:
From carbonate processors ## % per sol
Loss of atmosphere ## % per sol
Magnetic Shields ##

To always have atmosphere in 100% would I need to have Loss of atmosphere at 0% or the higher the better?

Also it should at least tell me by minuscule it be the amount of atmosphere produced by carb processor but it always shows 0% no matter how many I have.

this project doesn't work, don't waste ressources on it.

did the following experiment:
brought atmo to 100% using buildings only, no shields.
turned off all magnetic building, checked the loss %
turned everything back on, restored atmo to 100%
then deployed 4 shields.
turned of again the magnetics, loss was spot on the same.

so it's either broken or the gain is so abysmal taht it can't be mesured

Wow way to sound like a know-it-all douchebag without actually answering the question, which was clearly about the game.
You knew ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ well what he asked, but you just had to demonstrate your 6th grade geology knowledge, huh?
