Molehole heat bad or good?
Says it heats up the land around it. Is this bad or good?

Good, if you're playing on a map that's cold. Otherwise, it does nothing.

ok, since theres object that makes heat, it seemed obvious, but i wasent sure if you dont need heat, if it would cause trouble to things near it.

It protects from cold waves and melts ice areas within a radius. It's helpful but pretty much irrelevant.

Yeah by the time you get this tech you are no longer fighting for 'survival' so even on maps where it might be useful, its more of a convenience.

The reason I ask, is it would seem intuitive that added heat on a desert world where you dont have cold issues would cause high wear on nearby machines. Guess the devs dident make a downside to heating up the nearby earth when said earth is not cold.

Except the average surface temperature of mars is -60C. It is cold.

right, but all i mean is its warm enough without added heat to not need the surface heater tool, so that just makes one think your adding un needed heat, which typically tends to be unwanted in most logic.

Too small of a radius to be of any use unless whatever you have is right up against the mohole. Other than that, no harm.

I think the heat needed for the machines to run normally is generated by the machines. Mars rovers in real life need to always be active or they'll break from cold damage. This is what happened to the Opportunity rover.

You are thinking well beyond what is incorporated into the game mechanics :)

Mohole mine was implemented since launch, when the only way 'heat' was relevant was as a way to fight the effects of cold waves. That hasn't changed... so dont confuse this comment about heat with having anything to do with terraforming the planet. The heat is 'good' in that it blocks the effects of cold waves and it has no drawbacks because... the game didn't implement any :)

hopefully it will. sadly as the game is currently instead of calling it surviving mars we could call it picnic on mars based on how easy the game is currently. especially considering that terraforming removes the disasters from the planet and does not provide any new dangers (toxic rain and marsquake does no real damage). I personally would add to the game the possibility of over teraforming the planet with its unique dangers.

There is a Leap Forward event that can give you this tech real early.

But what if you have a fully terraformed planet?

Probably a bit less than the average temperature of Earth. It's further from the sun and smaller than Earth so less energy from the sun in general.
Since Earth's average temperature is about 15C I would guess Mars would be maybe 10C.

Of course they could overdo it with the GHG to trap more solar energy making the planet warmer. So unless the game specifically says - there's no way to tell.

Honestly, does the alleged Mohole heat even do anything?

That is it? The radius is it not bigger than itself. Then that area is filled with waste rock storage, metal storage, and some rare metal storage (if you want to keep it running smoother.)

You also need to reach 100% temperature in order for cold areas to completely disappear.
