Open Farm harvesting stops working?
Anyone else had the bug where despite over 1000 food ready for harvest in my open farm, my drones aren't harvesting? I have about 20 idle drones right next to the open farm, I have a empty food storage right next to it as well. Simply stop harvesting it. The crops have sat there for close to 30 sols and not a single food item has been produced/harvested.

Anyone else had that bug?

Yes. My drone hubs mostly ignored my open farms while the colony starved.

I think it's because the harvest priority is set too low, or perhaps because only a certain number are allowed to harvest and most of them are picking up .05 seeds instead of food.

My solution was to place an RC commander such that it could only reach the farms and food depot, nothing else. A reduced service area drone hub can work too.

Yes, it seems to be a bug, I just rebuilt the farm and they started working it again.

I've rebuilt and all that stuff and they still don't work. :( I put a bug post on Paradox plaza, no response yet.

Just had the same bug. At some point they just stopped collecting the food. No matter if they are idling and next to the farm.
I tried making new ones but nothing changed :/

+1 on suffering this bug. Noticed how my food output just suddenly took a nose-dive, despite a few massive open farm operations.

Even tried setting all farms to high priority, but no luck.

+1 more on this. Put 6 open farms in a hex w/ a single drone hub hitting all edges w/ 11 drones and storage (storage and depot). Setting desired amounts pulls food from other areas of the map. Nothing from the fields. HELP!

Might be worth submitting bug report.

Apparently, you can CTL-F1 to send bug report with save game file to devs.

I have the same issue. Once in a while I see a bunch of drones heading over to the farm to pick up some food, but they go back to idling for a while after 1 trip.

i had this problem. Drove me crazier. I finally figured out my problem and it might be the solution for you. Make sure you have storage set for seeds within range and with space. The drones will alternate picking food and seeds and if the seed storage is full... they just stop. They might pick some food when you move them around with the commander but it's only a temporary fix. I put the huge seed storage (I had 3k seeds...) and FINALLY was able to pick the two thousand units of food without my babysitting. Anyway, try that. Oh yeah. Captain Obvious says "Make sure the storage is in range and try using the commanders as dedicated overlords for your fields."

I just tried this, and it worked for ONE farm, out of FOUR. On that one farm, the drones instantly sprang to life and started harvesting while still ignoring the other three.

Thought that seemed very odd, so I racked my brain... and it struck me that I'd never planted potatoes on that farm, since I used it mainly for the soil increase and seed farming.

Tried it, changed one slot to potatoes, and the drones started instantly ignoring that farm too. No change on reversing back that change, either, farm still was ignored by the drones.

So... yeah, seems there's something about the potatoes that break the harvesting script for open farms at the moment. Mark Whitney would not be pleased, no doubt.

Having the same issue right now when the game said food shortge, and i was like, WUT? why this?
All 2 open farms produce 3x wheat, so seeds shouldn't cause issues

one farm has 0,2 seeds, so that should eb fine, there is also storage near, the lower one has just 3000 food.

these kind of bugs really kill the fun.

If you haven't already tried it, and this is ridiculous micromanagement, try using an RC Commander that has its field of control encompass only the field and the seed and food containers. I have potatoes on all my fields and they all work (so far). I'm going to test it some more to verify I'm not just blowing smoke up your keester.

Got that to work, actually, but there's still something seriously wonky going on.

The drone commanders don't do after a flurry of activity much... but somehow them just being there is causing the previously inactive drone commanders to somehow 'notice' the open farms.

Oh, except if you have anything else that needs maintenence within range of the Commanders. Then the whole thing grinds to a halt again.

REALLY hope this gets patched soon. Right now, it's just annoying and silly.

The RC Commander appears to be doing it. I kept building open farms because I needed to solve a food production problem now that I have ~3.5k colonists, but I couldn't figure out what was actually going on. Turns out I wasn't crazy, the drones just weren't harvesting the fields.
