Waste rock stuck!

no mods no DLC
I started clearing a mountain area but the drones piling up waste rock on the smallest hill. transporters and drones can't get to it so it's a small hill that I can't clear. any ideas how to fix it?

Terraforming (farthest right on the build menu), I don't know if it requires DLC. Unless that's what you mean by clearing.

I can't flatten it out cuz there can't be recource in the area. drones will start to try and remove the waste rock but nothing happens

Place a Waste rock dumping site nearby so drones move it

true but they should be able to clear the site still, they'll just drop the waste rock next to the work area, doesn't have to be a dumping site... I believe something else is going on there.

they place it next to the area but that can "block drones" because its placed blindly. Dumping site will force the drones to move those rocks to the site clearing that area

Small hint here:
Drones will drop waste rock near the flattened area.
If terraform a mountain site you may not be able to reach the waste if placed outside a zone the drones cant reach.
The closer to the edge of the map you are the greater the chance. but any mountainous area it can happen.
You should use wasp drones for this, since they can fly.
Or use a Dozer which collects the waste in the trunk area as it works.

The waste rock is on a small hill just steep enough so no drone or transporter can get on top of

That's what Rich was trying to tell you. What you will probably need to do if you don't have wasp drones, i.e. you're anyone other than Japan, is cancel your flatten project, use the ramp tool to build a ramp up to where the waste rock is, and then make sure the waste piles are in range of a drone hub, and then let the drones clear it. Then restart your flatten project. Always try to set the boundaries of your flatten projects to not create those pockets of waste rock.

It's a bug in the game.
I have tried to flatten a small hill the tool I used was larger than the hill.
The nanites took some waste rock and put it on top of the hill and NOT outside the boundary of the tool area. Then it was stuck. The nanites couldn't clear the pile it had dropped and the drones or rovers couldn't get to it either.
They made the attempt - went to the hill same spot each time for each drone and then gave up and went away again.
The hill meanwhile was in the way of future development. Nothing I could do to remove it. So I did what anyone else would do. I quit and thought up some new colourful adjectives for the devs.

Nope they won't, I'm playing as Japan and having the same issue. Wasp drone just fly to the edge of the hill and sit there spazzing out they won't move the rock.

The solution I found to this is to continue flattening around the stuck waste rock, until eventually your drones or bulldozers can reach the trapped rock. Just flatten as close as possible to the rock without actually having it selected and you'll avoid the bug that gets your vehicles stuck and unable to pick it up. Eventually when you get flat areas real close to the rock piles, the hills will be manageable and you can get down them to grab the rock.

ECM mod could allow you to delete the object? ECM is also one of the first mods extremely highly recommended by the developers. its because it has all of the developer options built into it.
