It is great on cruisers and carriers indeed, but it might be too slow to make a difference.
The last time I checked, it also didn't seem to work on Tinker-built Dread Stars, but that was a while ago...
I think it's pretty strange though that you can reverse engineer them and not get the ammo replenishing effect... any chance this could be made an easily moddable change? I might actually use missiles as a non-Tinker then!
Sure, but I would prefer that they work even if I would rarely use them.
If there was a mod that allowed Tinker forges to work the same for anyone that used them, I would install it and then still only occasionally use missiles even after reverse-engineering the tech.
But having the option is important - and I really don't like the idea of non-replenishing ammo. Also I think they are supposed to replenish fighters as well, though I also don't use those much...
Huh... I didn't know you could steal those - I only ever captured fleet bases with them.
Also yeah autorepair is supposed to repair twice as much. For me the only reason to steal the forge is the ammo/fighter replenishment, but it doesn't work for non-Tinkers or even on non-Tinker hulls, hency why I would like the option to mod that in - not that I would mind the change being made in the base game either...
Yeah I thought I could use forge to power my missile ships. Such a bummer, I think it's a bugs. They just don't want to admit it. It should have worked.
for example, with the Orthin, you only can use shield capacitors on Orthin class heavy cruisers, battle cruisers, and dreadnoughts. you can't use them on superdreads or dreadstars, as those are common to all races. Oddly, you can't use them on gunships either, but I modded it so you could. had to learn how the ship drawers work, but wasn't too hard. even looks nice where I decided to put them.
anywho, yeah, I think the goal was to only enable certain race specials for certain race ships, and that's it.
If your race can't research a ship item normally, reverse engineering it only gives you partial usage. seems pretty consistent, with some exceptions.
