Scratches: Director's Cut

Scratches: Director's Cut

Help me understand the ending better, please.
I just finished it (and loved it! I didn't want it to end!) and I know Robin killed his mother by biting her on the neck. But I don't understand who came in from the front door to come back to Robin. Was it Jamese or the Dr?
Also, who's body was in the coffin if the wife's body is outside?

I also, know Robin looks like that because of the drug the mother took while she was pregnant, so it wasn't because of the mask. So is the mask really cursed? Or was The Dhalmaar tricked by fear thinking it was? Along with James and Michael thinking it to.

I think, as was alluded to in your character's own writings, we're not given enough information to know with all certainty whether the events were somehow persuaded by the mask or if everything was a result of James' delusions and the curious participation of his wife and friend. The story works either way- two means to the same end and I think the story is better for it.

That being said, I share your take that James had slipped into madness and brought these events unto himself and his household - but the idea, the possibility of the other explanation remains intriguing.

My understanding was that the body in the coffin was in fact James and that after his death, the doctor stuck around simply to "care" for Robin out of guilt for taking part in the sordid affair- so the figure that appeared at the end of the director's cut could really only be him.

To be clear I'm referring to the main character's notes to himself regarding the book he is writing- he makes mention of struggling with himself over super-natural vs. natural explanations for the end of his book.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if it was either way a curse or if it was defined but I just wasn't smart enough to understand it (I still try though).
I agree, it does make the story better like that. Gives it even more of a creepy feel, even after it's finished. Like something to just think about.

I was thinking too that James did die and the doctor looked after Robin but wasn't too sure because his bank account was still active.
But I guess the doctor was using it since his account wasn't with the bank anymore and the man on the phone said he must have switched banks. So, he was really just using James' account?

Good Job Videlreyes with the Bite!!! Bravo on your interpretation LazyFly... I just finished the Director's Cut for the first time and now feel closure with the story because of the extra chapter and your (LazyFly's) logical deduction on the ending. Robin! Robin! Robin! and the Doctor!!! James in the coffin!!! Brilliant!!! Thank you Director!!!
