Game dosen't launch, help? [SOLVED]
Hello!

I recently got this game from a friend, but only now I downloaded it.
When I try to launch the game, a small black window pops up for less than a second.
I don't even know what says there, since it just appers and disappers.
After that, for few seconds I show up as "ingame", after that my status changes to "online" and that's it.
That happens every time, I have no idea why.

I know some people had issues like that on Win 8 when I use Win 10, could that be a problem?
I really have no idea.

Any help? Thanks for reading, Have A Nice Day!

Edit: as issue isn't with a game but with a Steam, I say "game" issue is solved. Didn't manage to solve Steam issue tho.

How you tried running the game from its folder rather than the launcher? Try executing SCREAM.EXE directly.

I have no idea then, we do know the game runs on Windows 10. Try some of the different options in SCREAM.CFG, ie: changing the AUDIO_DEVICE, disabling FULLSCREEN, etc.

Maybe simply reinstall as well. The error you mention, is that a regular Windows pop-up? It's not an error from the Scratches engine for sure.

Please, set LOG to 1, try running the game once, and post the contents of the file scream.log here. Thanks!

Set log to 1, tried run the game, same issue as before, but er..here is a "slight" problem.
The scream.log isn't in my game files.
I only have scream.exe, cfg, res, sc, before and after setting a log to 1. Huh, I suppose that could be an issue, that also explains why when trying to verify files though Steam it downloads one thing that can't verify.

Wait, have you tried launching the game by double clicking on scream.exe? I just want to make sure you're running it that way. The log file *should* appear, unless it's a more critical issue.

Also, have you tried setting the compatibility via properties? Try an older version of Windows such as XP.

Yes, I am double clicking and no, still no log file, which is weird.

Yeah I tried Win 8, 7, 95, nothing. Same error as before:"Application load error: 5:0000065434:"

Okay so er..after making a little reasearch, I found out that issue isn't with a game, but with a steam, as "Application load error: 5:0000065434" is when games for some reason can't load, and it happens mostly to titles like Witcher 1 and Fallout New Vegas. Seeing as there are few solvings to that, but sometimes even those don't work, I will try to solve that issue and hopefully game will work.

So sorry for trouble! It's nothing with game.

No, this is definitely another issue since Scratches does *not* depend on Steam nor use any of its libraries. You could try shutting down Steam before double clicking scream.exe *just* in case.

Also, please make sure you also try the compatibility settings in the Properties panel of the file!

I'm getting the same ""Application load error: 5:0000065434:"" error when running through Proton

I had the same problem literally now. Same as you I run the game, a little DOS windows show for a brief second, closes but the game doesn't start. But, I was playing the game until yesterday, played until sunday (in the game). Today, I tried to open and that happened, the only difference is that I unistalled the GOG version I had in my PC, reinstalled and worked again.

tldr: download Scratches Gog version, install and try to run the game on Steam again.

Thanks for that! I have both versions on my system and found the saves were getting confused.
