Top 10 favorite shmups
Figured I'd start one of these threads. I'm fairly old and played quite a few shmups throughout the years. At times I get torn beween what is new and shiny and what is old and proven. Just curious as to what other players considered their favorites in the genre as well. Doesn't matter if it's a newer bullet hell, old school nintendo shooter, or even asteroids...whatever floats your boat.

In fact, Darius Gaiden is great, too. Nice fishy design. But in general I prefer vertical scrolling shmups.

I own G-Darius on both the PS1 and PS2. You can find the PS2 version on 'Taito Legends 2' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taito_Legends_2

In comparison the PS1 version is very subpar being plagued with horrible slowdown as well as playback issues with the soundtrack. The PS2 version on the other hand is an arcade perfect port and plays flawlessly. It was worth the price alone of a used Playstation 2 just to get the best version of G-Darius (unless you own the arcade board).

Ok, didn't know that. They usually don't put put the better shmups in such Collections.

Subscribing to this post since theres so many games I haven't played, anyways I'll share my favourites, super casual opinion here, I don't play for highscores or anything, I'm just happy finishing the games (if I can :delamaze:), so this doesn't mean these are the best games, just the ones I enjoyed the most.

1- Exceed 3rd jade penetrate - I always come back to this one, amazing soundtrack, great gameplay, I really emjoy the bossess.

2- Touhou 6 - Nostalgia factor, this was the first bullet hell game I played, great soundtrack, I love the boss attack patterns from Touhou games.

3- Mushihimesama - Great all around game.

4- Kamui - Oldie but goodie, love the soundtrack.

5- Dodonpachi resurrection - these one might get higher on my list if I get better at it.

Trouble Witches Origin - I'm not the biggest fan of the bullet clear mechanic, but as far as I know its pretty original, the game is pretty solid overall, and its the best looking shmup in my opinion, or the cutest one at least :cinnamon2: http://store.steampowered.com/app/460630/Trouble_Witches_Origin__Episode1_Daughters_of_Amalgam/

Sonic Wing - Ones of the first shmup I played, there weren't many options back in the days and this one was a pretty solid one.

1942 - Simple and fun, its still an enjoyable game despite the decades.

Maidens of a hollow dream - Bought this one for the lols and ended up loving it, the character switch and the wall collision mechanics works great, love the soundtrack aswell. http://store.steampowered.com/app/789740/Maidens_of_a_Hollow_Dream/
