The MD / Genesis Version has a Cheat Menu..... don´t know if there´s one in the Steam Version.
To the Developers:
Guys that´s too hard, you get a very bad Ending if you use Continues, but beating this Game without Continues seems impossible.
To get the final Bossfight and the good Ending you have to use no Continues......
But those shield enemies on the last stage are extremely frustrating, unfun and disrupt the flow of the game.
The shielded enemies are quite easy to take out when you know how - just roll into them to make them drop their shield, then you can shoot or melee them as usual. Alternatively you can use grenades and several of the special weapons to take them out.
That's right - there is a cheat that lets you get around it though, which we'll reveal pretty soon.
If you talking about https://twitter.com/BitmapBureau/status/1209526288647630853
well what about steam version? It doesn't seem work properly.
I used #7 - "JACQUI" and other cheats to jump final lever so I can check how it's working.
When I also use infiniteve lives, I get final boss, but if I not use it and losing just one continue, I get Game Over instead of boss. And it's really hard to understand about is it working or not, because "JACQUI" code don't give you a hint, like jingle or visual signal.
I disagree with the game being too hard and unfair. It gives me a drive to get better, and the more I play it the more I improve. On a serious playthrough I can make it to the second last stage without continues. It took a lot of practice, but it was smart of the developers to randomize the levels and item drops to keep it fresh even if the levels are at the core still generally the same each time. That little bit of variation keeps the game from getting boring which results in more play. If less health powerups appear, oh well! It just kicks my brain into overdrive and I try harder. I actually feel kinda rotten when the game is in a good mood and does pamper me with constant health powerups.
It's a very smartly designed game that keeps me hooked and it completely caters to the kinds of players like me who would try for an arcade game 1CC. I say good on you, Bitmap Bureau for sticking to your guns and not ruining your vision. You can't please everyone, but the people you aimed the game at are very much pleased!
To everyone complaining: git gud!
Try Steam ver, it's more harder when genesis rom in my opinion. You have about x1,5 more enemies in rooms. And if they wanted to sticking to their guns as you say, when they shouldn't add cheat code to skip this moment with death before final boss. I would like to try how it's going on physical cartrige for sega genesis for myself but I don't have neither one nor the other.
Enemies can eat way too many bullets before going down (power level at max) and the fact that they can spawn right below you without any sign of this happening makes it unfair and actually frustrating. It feels like both difficulties are only balanced for two players in mind but not for one.
The awful hyper sensible controls where you always end up moving diagonal don't make it any easier. Especially when trying to dodge stuff you often eat the bullet because you dodged in a direction you didn't wanted. Imo this game needs another patch.
Yep, I watched some gameplay videos and noticed all the same things. The game looks annoying, clunky and unbalanced. It also never goes on sale. Dropped from my wishlist.
How does meleeing work in the PC version? On the MD I melee like a mad man. I can get to the third stage (and near the end) without firing a single shot (with the exception of bosses of course). From my experience it's a really useful skill to learn and it definitely builds the confidence to get up close to the enemies and dodging around becomes much easier.
