Remaining Content?
Hi barjed and other Pixelated Milk staff,

It's been over 4 months since the game launched, and we are still waiting for the remaining content. Pixelated Milk has been squashing bugs, yes, but it seems like all the time has been spent tweaking the gameplay mechanics and balance, stuff that, let's be honest, should have been done before and maybe immediately after game launch. I'm sorry to say, I doubt all the gameplay tweaks in the world will sell more copies of the game at this point, because all the people interested in Regalia would have gotten the game already. If you guys want players to come back and new players to try the game, what you need to do is release NEW content, not drive endless circles around already released content, hoping the nth pass will finally make it 'work'. At this point, the existing game, while not perfect, is pretty good and entirely playable. While bug fixes are good and all, it's time to finally release the planned entirety of the game, virtues and flaws, and let it stand on its own legs.

Thank you for listening to my gripes.

They are all liars and criminals.
What should I do to prevent this? Read their minds?!

As of today the regalia devs are in line with those individuals and they will stay there, until they deliver.

lol, no. How much money they got is irrelevant. Due diligence is researching WHO is making the game. Is it a new company that's never published a game of similar scope before? That's risky. Is it full of people with misc. "industry experience" who have just left big developers to start their own studio? That's risky. Is it their first game? Risky. Do they actually have anything to show you to indicate they know what they're doing--like a vertical slice, or better yet, a demo you can download? If not, you guessed it: risky.

Because, see, the thing is... a failed crowdfunding project does not make the people who ran it "liars" or "criminals." In all likelihood they were simply inexperienced and/or incompetent. Making games, especially, is hard... and unless a studio has **proven** that they know what they're doing and can deliver, it's a **bad** idea to give them your money.

What you are doing--and this cannot possibly be overmphasized--is gambling on faith alone.

Crowdfunding =/= pre-ordering. You're investing your money in a project that may or may not succeed, so you have a responsibility to yourself to do a bit of research so that you can make an *informed* judgment as to how likely, or not, that project is to succeed.

....

Now, let's look at Regalia. Why do I consider it to be the riskiest crowdfunded-game I've backed? Here are some red flags from their original pitch:

We are a small, fresh studio

We lack long resumes and work experiences of other projects

Those are all big red flags. New developer in a new studio with no real external funding or relevant experience. So: why did I end up backing Regalia?

<> The core team consisted of *programmers*, meaning they already had the most fundamental people on board, and would only relying on new hires for less fundamental content (art, music, etc.)

<> They demonstrated a basic grasp of the relevant finances--IE they understood that a lot of the money earned would need to go to fees, taxes and software licenses.

<> They are based in Poland, where the government is very keen on building up their PC development industry, thanks in large part to CDPR.

<> Last, and most importantly, they actually had content to share--a working combat system w/ release-level models, animation and effects.

All of that said, Pixelated Milk could very easily have collapsed and failed to deliver *anything* at all... But had that been the case, I wouldn't exactly be justified in attacking them as "liars" or "criminals" because it was a risky investment from the word go. Had Regalia failed, I'd have had no one to blame for my lost pledge but myself.

When is the remaining content due for release? The last patch was almost five months ago.

I don't think any new content will be released in patches. Rather, the upcoming content will be released as free DLC in two installments. From the relevant update:

Originally posted by Pixelated Milk's Kickstarter:
DLC1 - The Unending Grimoire
- New villager to recruit - Bassanius the Mystic
- New building to construct - Mystic's Tower
- New Personal Bond to pursue (with Bassanius)
- New activity - the Grimoire
- New feature - Visual Customization for Characters
- 39 character skins to unlock (including the exclusive skins chosen by backers in the Kickstarter survey!)
- New battlegrounds for the Grimoire battles
- New cutscenes with additional voiceover

DLC2 - Paragons and Pajamas
- New party member to recruit - Quinn the Protector
- New party member(s) to recruit - Yusuf & Berius, the Disjointed Duo
- Two new personal bonds to pursue (Quinn and Yusuf & Berius)
- Two new diplomacy factions - the Duchy of Armelisse and the Merchant Princedoms of Minwe
- New diplomatic missives
- New items and rewards to find
- New cutscenes with additional voiceover

So, basically, there's going to be a *lot* of new content. No idea whether or not it'll be on-cart of a separate download for the upcoming (and for me, highly anticipated) Nintendo Switch port.
