I personally don't have much time in it so far, but if I had to play devil's advocate; I'd say get it and see how you feel. There's always a refund button available for under two hours of play time.

Personally I'm enjoying what I've seen so far though. But I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sadist when it comes to games.... So let that say what it will. :dredd:

sure you can, especially when the positive reviews far outweigh them.

I completed the game on Hard in 13 hours (What a noob, I know)

Difficulty: It is difficult at the beginning, but once you progress and get more skills it becomes easier.

Length: It is not the longest game you will play, but the new updates add replay value and new content to chew.

The game has good aesthetics and a simple but interesting story. The sound track is nice, it fits the game atmosphere.

The controls feel a little bit clunky at the beginning but you get used to it. As you progress it becomes smother in combination with the skills that you unlock.

Developers are active and releasing content.

It's not about difficulty itself since Hotline Miami is much harder, but gameplay in Ruiner is worse in terms of mechanics, so it's more complicated. How about quest "die 50 times on level" but without any death count icon? How about sloooow turning around MC in game where bunch of enemies attacking you from every direction? Yeah, use "teleportation" every damn second. So fun.

I beat the game in around 5 hours or so on normal difficulty. It's pretty tough for the average player such as myself, but it isn't anything too frustrating since checkpoints are very frequent.

+ Great aesthetic. The visuals and the music are awesome.
+ There's some replay value with the new addition of New Game Plus and a Speedrun mode.
~ Gameplay is pretty fun, but it can get repetitive after a while.
- Story is very simplistic. It lacks any sort of real voice acting which breaks immersion IMO.

I'd recommend getting the game on sale, especially if you plan on playing through the game once.
