I'd also suggest you to increase the level of difficulty, just in case you're not already playing on Hard. It makes the game a bit more streamlined, since doing something "wrong" will get you killed.
Getting hit is okay. The most reliable way to restore health is by killing enemies, they will occasionally drop health pickups. There are some mechanics in the game that allow you to increase the effectiveness of these health pickups.
Aside from that, you can get health via executions or Grid Converter ability, which convers energy to health. It won't restore a lot even with upgrades, but it can also provide passive healing that you may need during arena transitions.
Also, I've noticed that the best strategy against bosses is staying offscreen and shooting them in the distance. You can't melee them for too long. Eventually you run out of health/energy
That's a perfectly viable strategy. If you're playing more or less late in the game, try using Use Of Weapons rank 5 (Gun Fever) + Projected Barrier 5 (or whatever that other shield is called, i dont remember now). Barrier will slow the boss down and Gun Fever will restore energy for you when you shoot. Use Supply Drop and call a powerful gun like BRT Lancer or Vulcan Minigun and just unload it onto vulnerable and slow downed bosses.
it would be helpful if we could remap the controller.
nevertheless, i'm having a good time.
