The only answer is "git gud".
If it makes you feel better, I couldn't get past the 1st stage, but after a few days I finally beat the Arena mode.

Kinetic shield is a must, imo.

Life jacket is a waste of talent unless you're aiming for score attack; it's a one time use only item. Frag grenade upgrade is your best friend as later waves will have hordes swarming you. Consider it a "oh c**p" moment saver.

Stage 3 was a chokepoint for me too, when I've played the arena for the first couple of tries. I would say that first thing you should do is to be comfortable playing on hard difficulty even with little to no perks, prioritising enemies which are the biggest threat to you in some kind of order (e.g. vampires/leeches, shotgunners, shepherd/bishop/flak users, anyhting that goes boom-boom big time like kamikaze-creeps and mines, etc. Fatties I usually leave for the end, since often they are protected anyway). Learn their attacks, behaviour and wave-spawns. Try to save big or favourite weapons of yours for chokepoints. Remember to visit the center of the arena for some hp/energy refill every now and then if you need it. Ruiner kills should help you survive, unless you get out of the kill-animation at the exactly same moment when the world explodes around you (gas bottles, kamikazes, mines, or even all at once). This usually means that you go from hero to zero in an instant - very grim!

Regarding perks, some arena runs are better, some worse - may the RNGeezus smile upon thee. Try to pick something that you like to use in your normal play, something that compliments your playstyle. Even if you fare poorly in your current run, just stick to it and you might progress and learn something new in the process.

Until you get comfortable in the arena, you shouln't worry about the hi-score and such stuff imo. Play it safe at first and learn the waves and how to dispatch nasties while staying in your clothes yourself. And most importantly, have fun!
hack makes it very easy

im stuck on stage 5, i can deal with the drain pods or the heavy cyborg, but keeping both even on screen at the same time is nigh impossible, it feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to die from a damage wave that cant be dodged through or avoided because the spawn luck decided to place it in the opposite corner of the map, it would be fine if i only had to deal with 1 or 2 but its dropping a new pod in every 3-5 seconds, i dont have enough energy/dashes to cross the map as many times as i need to, anyone got any ideas?, or is this a just get good moment

The trick is that you don't actually need to fight with both pods and heavy cyborg at the same time. There can only be 1 pod present at the battlefield, so just ignore the blue pod (it drains energy without doing any damage) and deal with heavy cyborg.
Thanks for the advice.
I reloaded Ruiner recently after a long break and just wondered about the arena mode leader board scores. I am not particularly bothered about getting a top tier score, but I noticed my scores are not saving, to compete against friends.

Is there a particular way of exiting the arena, to have my highest score saved? (to my profile)

Most games, this is an automatic thing, but I couldnt figure it out with Ruiner.
