It's not whether it's an objectively good ending or not (this is entertainment, that's always subjective), it's that it's a good example of the kind of ending RUINER wanted because it both brings their story to an end, yet leaves it open for sequels if desired.
it seemed kinda rushed and unsatisfying.
I mean I liked the twist but it´s clearly missing a proper closure, maybe a final boss battle where you have to choose to either fight HER or your BRO, dunno just saying..
really hope the devs will give us a nice story DLC at some point, expanding the lore a bit and with a more satisfying conclusion because the game deserves it.
the schemers start their plot to kill the boss, the hacker takes control of you and sends you off to kill him. HER ( do we really need to use "her" constanly or can we use " she" ? ) overloads your arm to break you free of the hack, but in turn wrecks your systems, so obviously you can't continue. the reason why she doesn't just let you soldier on through everything is that 1 she can't control you, so you could just wonder into a death trap and 2 you don't have the skills to get there, i swear, try to beat the final arena with 2 dashes, no health addons and other useful stuff with the mini bosses pounding on you together with the mobs.
Besides that, Mother and King could use the oportunity to jump on HER to remove her as an obstacle and make their future plans easier.
Now, the BOSS says that he watched, so it was sanctioned by him. Meaning that HER was monitoring HEAVEN systems and acted as a security measure, rather than a saviour, she played you all the way through and the whole game you did what boss wanted you to do, until HER fliped the script on him
now the final pod part is where it gets hazy for me. did they stuff you in a pod or was there a clone of you in that pod? it can't be a clone because he acts 1 to 1 with you. sooooooooooo HER knocks you out, they stuff you in the pod, change your clothes, lets you keep the helmet and a pipe (srsly? is that like a teddy bear or something?).
the way i see it, the final timer is a nuge so you wouldn't hesitate. otherwise the BOSS could try to talk you down or you would be confused etc. and so you finish the job.
Also there's a huge logic hole in there. now if there was someone that i needed to keep alive, but who will stop at nothing to kill me, the way i see it, i'd put that bastard off the grid. put the Ruiner into the pod and take him off the network with a heavy security detail, that way HER can't hack him and she can't use hacked people to get to him. but no, let's come and give him a big hug and talk about how awesome we are.
and the meet me where heaven folds.... oh cmon guys.... i hope that you did actually have budget limitations and couldnt continue instead of thinking that it was an actually good way to end a game. the concept is very simple: each story must be self-contained, it must go from start to finish, there's nothing wrong with setting up a cliffhanger but it can't be used as an excuse to gloss over unexplained or unclear stuff.... warhammer 40k horus heresy books show it off simply. every book follows a story of a person, start to finish, during it there's contact with other people who have their stories told in other books or who get their arks wrapped up there and then, but there are roughly 30 books out already telling the same overall story. each book tells that there are other events and other plans unfolding to get your attention but they don't put it front and centre as a hook to advance the plot like this ending does.
i loved the looks and the feel and the heavy hitting combat and the story was alright until that very end, which left a bit of a bitter taste. i don't regret even a bit for paying the full price for the game + soundtrack on release. waiting for that dlc now ;)
sweet! :D
i talked with the hag but i didn't understand anythin that she was talking about. same as with the fortune teller :/
It seems the devs were on the fence, they developed and interesting world but were afraid to develop it further, the sidequests develop interesting nuggets of lore, but never take them anywhere.
But it doesn't look like something constrained like Dark Souls, just looks like something that lacked direction.
That kind of bothers me, I can handle a lack of story, but something so interesting in between is hard to manage.
i feel the same, the mission hub ( rengoku) needs so much more life in it
At the start of the game you're storming heaven with a particularly strong conviction to kill the boss (as the player you don't know why yet). You fight your way through security all the way until you reach the boss' door. The whole time HER is telling you not to do it, that you're making a mistake. The difference is that once you access the door HER is the one who hacks n blows you up because she IS the boss and the one who's on the other side of the door. You were coming for HER(the boss) in the first place because she killed your brother. Once you wake up the game goes on as it actually does. She takes advantage of your state and the fact that no one knows what the boss actually looks like and tries to sell you the idea that the boss kidnapped your brother. You go through all the smaller bosses essentially killing off people she didn't want to have to do in herself. And at the end what you find in the capsule isn't your brother but your brother's corpse. He was killed before you even stormed heaven since that was your inital reason for doing so.
I thought this all was the case once she first started talking about my brother at the start of the game. So once I saw the actual ending the first thing that threw me for a loop was why would she stop him from killing the boss at the beginning of the game just to do it at the end?
