Maybe think of it this way, like the counter-colony, you can also play the driver ants.

It would definitely be cool

They're an enemy unit for 5.2, and IRL they don't have the nest structure that forms our underground systems. So no, at least not initially.

They may well find themselves in an ereptor colony at some point in the future, in an extra level or suchlike.

there better be driver ants
or else I will delete the game
As one of the Devs already said, they won't be playable as a full complete colony in freeplay (for the same reasons as why Army Ants aren't playable as one).

They'll probably find themselves in a ereptor colony at some point though, we know they have brood tiles in the code thanks to the Great Liam Leak back when the Fire Ant demo was still being made.

Beating The Other Foot on any difficulty rewards players with the counterpart colony (army ants, slave-maker ants, and trapjaw ants) for freeplay.

I know the Other Foot grants those ants, but they're not a "complete/full" colony per say, it's referring to a colony of only the respective species (IE only Trapjaws, only Army Ants, etc.)

Personally, I'll never understand this. That is, it's just a freeplay video game, you know? It's not realistic anyway, we have blue and and pink ants, and all kinds of zany unreal/surreal things anyway. I don't see the big deal just having army ants or anything else for that matter, just being in underground nests.

Now, even the Story, of course is not realistic, but I definitely understand not being playable like that, but as a game dev myself, with Freeplay type stuff, I's say just let the players have fun, even if it's not "ant simulation", I mean this isn't an ant simulator anyway. Give these folks their driver ants for the helluvit. lol

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined...

Welp, lets hope they make it into freeplay through some ereptor magic-

I do get why they're not so for the campaign, I do agree that for freeplay it is a strange decision, especially in the case of the Driver Ants since they DO make underground nests at least occasionally.

Yeah, like I said, in the story mode, sure. But honestly, in freeplay, put just army ants. Put whatever ants, put termites, put whatever, because it's just freeplay, it does not have to make sense. It's just for fun and doesn't hurt anyone- but can make some of your playerbase happier, and a happier playerbase is what any game company wants (or should lol).

could give them to the counterpart, or maybe once you finish the final true final experiment, you can get almost all ant species for the ereptor colony ?, just a thought, like a reward for finish the game completely

there is a pretty high possibility we get a "custom" ereptor colony editer so in a way we MAY be able to have a bootleg driver ant colony
