Game content?

How much game content do you get out of this as single player only? I'm having the hardest time pulling the trigger on this game. It has such positive reviews, but it looks so...simple? Repetitive maybe? Can someone sell me on this game?

Well as someone with 400 hours in the game, Basically it comes down to if you think playing the game on harder difficulties is a lot of fun. For me, it is, as the harder difficulties, especially insane, can get quite tough, and require you to think in new ways and come up with a lot of new strats. Hibernation on insane took several dozen hours to figure out. the base campaign and extra levels can be good fun, I've done the campaign 3 times at this point. Freeplay has a TON of customizability, leading to a ton of time spent on it, though for me it kind of got boring after a while. In total, there's probably about 30-40 hours of difficulty, if you play every level once on easy-medium diffculty. You can get a ton more gameplay out of the game if you play on higher difficulties, though I know a lot fo people don't like that.

Hi there! The game is still in early access and the devs are still currently working on the game. You could wait another year or two (no promises) until the game is fully released. However, despite the game being in early access still, there's still quite a bit of content, and that includes:

1. A campaign with 8 nature missions, and 4 formicarium challenges. The difficulties you can choose from are easy, medium, hard, insane. (Will be changed in future)
2. A custom game mode, Freeplay or Skirmish, where you can set up your colony and try to complete unique challenges. There are unique landmarks from all across the nature levels. There are currently 4 freeplay maps, with the devs making many more soon.
3. Extra levels, they are usually shorter levels that add a bit of extra content to the game. There are some really fun ones such as Hibernation, The Other Foot, and Adventure. Some extra levels unlock unique enemies or colonies for freeplay! There are some speical levels that appear during certain holidays.
4. A battle arena where you can make all types of enemies from all the nature levels have a duel to the death.

Some upcoming features;
1. Tier 5, the final chapter to the campaign. This is the final huge update that will release the game out of early access.
2. Some more upcoming freeplay maps, two of which were community made maps, and a whole bunch of other dev created maps.
3. More extra levels to be coming soon.

Some deconfirmed features;
1. Multiplayer
2. Weaver ants and Honey pot ants
3. Moving the queen/making the queen fight back
4. Rebuilding dirt tiles

i only play skirmish and so far the only type of ants is a worker and and a black ant

Assuming your playing as the Ereptors, did you unlock other ants in the formacarium? You have to do that first before your able to use them in freeplay.

wondering why all ants arent unlocked in freeplay / skirmish im not one to play campaigns in games

The campaign mode, it's by far the most important part of the content of the game and will teach you the systems fully.
