Then we're perfectly positioned to help one another and both gain by it.
What's your tactic 1.2? I get overwhelmed after a while as by the time my ants are done with the later waves, another is on it's way, no time to replenish or get food, I assume I'm taking too long to build up black ants or harvesting spiders sub optimally.
I clear more or less one side at a time clockwise starting from the bottom nests.
In the spirit of the topic's question:
I am not the person you are asking, nor have I beaten 1.2 on Insane yet (only Hard and Med-Challenge yet), but my performance with 1.2 has *significantly* improved after I decided to mix workers with fighters (and generally initially spam for more ants over upgraded ones) for 1.2. Spiders care not for the level of your ants, they will still instakill every few seconds, and they will still run to and from their nests while ignoring the ants, so you want to flood their nests with ants that will slowly grind their health down as the spiders are running by. Don't try to catch spiders with your attack squads the way you'd want to in 1.1 (your ants would just waste time running after the spider, and time wasted = more dead ants), just put the target point in the spider's nest, disable food collection and march on.
To think of it, it might also work for catching egg thieves - catching up seems difficult, but if your nest is flooded with workers and soldiers, they might grind many of the thieves down as they all auto-attack in small radius while the thieves are running by.
The trick does seem to be numbers, a dozen workers then 15 warriors, digging out the lonely spider nests first before attacking the spider colonies, a large number of workers has little trouble with a single spider and are cost effective in their part as spider bait, spawn replenishers and harvesters.
One can also use a swarm of workers with food collection and fighting turned off to dig out the hard to kill wood lice and beetles so the spiders can kill them for you. You do lose a few workers but they are cheap and quicker than the time it takes warriors to kill off the woodlice and the spiders themselves and go defend against raids.
