They're balanced so that you should have everything you need to complete them after completing two levels and perhaps one on challenge mode.
As has been pointed out, you can make your life significantly easier by playing them on easy - no FC should take longer than 10-15 minutes.
I like the missions. They are fun and challenging and I have no issue with failing with them. But the Formicarium challenges are just so darned boring so having to do them overe again is just a pain
then just play another game or get good at the game, don't complain
then just play another game or get good at the game, don't complain
If by "get good" you mean replaying the same content you just played again, then building twice as much stuff, then parking your ants at the nest entrance, and then going afk to make coffee while you wait for the challenge to be done, then sure.
Pretending this is a skill issue is stupid. Unlike the levels the in between there isnt any speed or efficiency factor to the challenge. You either have enough stuff to beat it or you dont. Its the exact opposite of what playing the actual levels is usually like.
It doesn't help that you have to listen to generic evil scientist #69, who chuckles cartoonishly to himself as he ignores direct orders.
Not to suggest that "get good" is the solution, but the steps you've outlined shouldn't ever be necessary for a player who is actually good at the game. It's not super difficult to beat all the formicarium challenges even on insane without ever replaying content - the missions give you more than enough rewards to build up for the challenges without having to replay if you use your resources well.
It doesn't quite matter if they are easy or hard. They are still insanely boring and just takes too much time. The last one was somewhat fun as it actually required a little bit of thinking. But all the others where just... boring. I could as well play a tower-defence game.
I was specifically replying to the person who suggested there was no skill involved and that no matter how skilled you are you would reach a point where you have to replay old content just to clear the formicarium challenges. That's simply not true, so I just wanted to correct the misinformation.
