And workers ******************************
Not spoiling it :P
But the level three upgrade causes a special boost only available to that ant type
Queen
Option 1: Royal Decree (gives you a temporary infinite army that can take hits and help you recover when you run out of food) vs Royal Guard (also allows you to recover from a loss of food, but one respawn of your army and more reliance on a group of powerful defenders spawned near the queen).
Option 2: Fierce Mother (Confuses everything underground for a short time when queen is at low HP, giving you a chance to kill them without retaliation) vs Second Wind (heals and makes the queen invulnerable for twice as long as the confusion lasts when the queen is at low HP, but permits enemies to fight back).
Workers
Option 1: Efficient Brood (faster working and movement) vs Aggressive Brood (3x damage).
Option 2: Evasive (when not in combat dodges most attacks) vs Defensive (damage taken in a hit is capped, plus slight damage reduction).
Black Ants
Option 1: Meat Wall (damage resist) vs Dangerous (increased attack speed).
Option 2: Self-preservation (built-in retreat to keep more ants alive) vs Self-repair (increased health regen out of combat).
Wood Ants
Option 1: Corrosive (provides an added poison DoT) vs High-pressure (provides added physical damage, does less total DPS than poison).
Option 2: Weakening (provides a debuff that increases further poison damage to targets) vs Crippling (provides a debuff that increases further physical damage to targets).
The leaf-cutters are likely to make the best tanks, so that workers dedicated to combat will be less useful than non-combatant workers that you need less of thanks to Efficient Brood with Evasive in the case of nest invasion.
For similar reasons, black ants will do best utilizing their physical DPS, meaning Dangerous and Self-preservation will be quite useful in keeping them powerful and active.
Wood ants are up to you, but they currently have the highest DPS of all units we have access to. Plus, poison ignores physical resist. This means that wood ants are both viable as support units, which have increased physical damage from High-pressure and increase the physical damage of their allies with Crippling, and as the powerhouse of a colony, using Corrosive to shred through everything plus Weakening to get further boosts. You could also mix them up, giving them Corrosive for armor-ignoring options while also supplying Crippling to boost the damage of everything else.
Yep. You must select one of the Formicarium colonies you created when you start the game, though. Black ant and wood ant colonies will not get these bonuses.
