Out of video memory
Hi

My son has just started playing Empires of the Undergrowth on my laptop but we get an 'Out of memory' window and then it stops running. I have an i5 Windows 7 laptop (but about 5 years old) and would have expected it to run.

I don't know much about games or their requirements. Can anyone help in suggesting what the issue is?
Are their special requirements (e.g Ram ) to run the game?
Would an average spec new Windows 10 laptop be ok to run it?

thanks
Kevin

I would imagine a 5 year old laptop would really struggle and have problems - EotU runs on Unreal Engine 4, which is a modern engine needing some reasonably strong hardware behind it.

We can't guarantee it for things that are below minimum spec, but if you had a recent mid-range laptop that has something better than "Intel HD" on-board graphics (so you'll be looking for the words GeForce or Radeon in the system spec) then I think the game would run fine on that.

Out of memory usually means out of ram. You can stretch this by adding/enlarging the page file, but that is more of a stop-gap. Basically a page-file uses a part of your hard drive (hdd or ssd) as a back-up ram. So if you max out your system's ram, it will spill over to the page-file. Windows is smart enough to put less accessed files into page-file and more accessed files into ram.

But again this is a stop-gap. If your laptop is a mid range 5-yr-old, it may not help. You can also go into the games settings and turn the graphics down lower (try minimum settings). Lastly, optimize your pc by ensuring no un-needed background apps (programs in old parlance) are running.

I definately agree with VioDraeth! Also lower your video settings to as low as possible from the main menu od the game. You should see some result.
