Afterwards, yes, matabele ants are the best choice to have healer ants
I mean what else would they be? I too feel as the ants simply plopping down perfectly rounded bits of dew on straw makes little to no sense, these ants could act as specialized harvesters. I remember from one of the old trailers or posters the honeypot ants were ment to be specialized harvesters, so you never know.
But there is still a problem, why take the time to create ants to store dew when you could just kill bugs to get food? I think either dew should become an important and scarce food source or it should have a greater role (such as becoming a food source for larvae)
Maybe honeydew or other sweet liquids makes adult ants move a bit faster for a period and/or lets hurt adult ants regenerate hp faster while also working as food, in actual ant colonies the workers are the main consumers of sugar due to it giving alot of fast energy to them(the queens and larvae eat some too), which they need to maintain their high energy activities of running around, fighting, construction, etc.
Brief Description: "The Saharan silver ant (Cataglyphis bombycina) is a type of ant that lives in the Sahara Desert. Largely due to the extreme high temperatures of their habitat, but also due to the threat of predators , the ants are active outside their nest for only about ten minutes per day."
"Silver ants are covered on the top and sides of their bodies with a coating of uniquely shaped hairs with triangular cross-sections that keep them cool in two ways. These hairs are highly reflective under visible and near-infrared light, i.e., in the region of maximal solar radiation (the ants run at a speed of up to 0.7 metres per second (2.3 feet per second) and look like droplets of mercury on the desert surface). The hairs are also highly emissive in the mid-infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, where they serve as an antireflection layer that enhances the ants' ability to offload excess heat via thermal radiation, which is emitted from the hot body of the ants to the air. This passive cooling effect works under the full sun."
My depiction on what stats and abilities these ants will have in the game;
HP: 4/5 hit points that the leaf cutter ants have, but the warriors/majors Hp would be between the Leaf cutter Soldier's and Major's health.
In-game size: Similar between the black ants and leaf cutter ants, but more food underground (because the desert soil contains a lot of insects and animals that seek shade).
Attack: the workers attack will be equal to that of an black ant soldier, but the soldier/major's attack will be lesser than an leaf cutter major and more than the leaf cutter soldier.
Attack speed: faster than the black ants.
Special Abilities: Saharan Silver Ants contain a record of one of the fastest ants in the animal kingdom, therefore, both workers and soldiers/majors will sprung out of nursery and outside at a faster paste than any other ant (upon upgrading will be 5% attack boost and 50% speed boost).
Food cost for tile: 25 for workers, 55 for soldier/majors.
Respawn cost: 4 for workers, 10 for soldier/major.
Upgrades:
Left Side:---
Flash:
-Speed Increases (250%, 15% per ant) for this specific species only (because nobody doesn't want to overwhelm the map with Speed Racer like ants [Takes the fun away]).
Resistence:
-Defense Increases (200%, 20% per ant) for every ant species.
Right Side:---
Aggression:
-Attack and speed increases (225%, 15% per ant) for every soldier/major ant unit upon a kill (depends on what you attack, but it lasts for 30 seconds, and cool down for another 30 seconds :3).
Gluttony:
-Attack and defense boost (200%, 20%) upon every ant that respawns and gain the boost for 2 minutes (or less), but cost 2 additional food per unit respawn.
Survival of the Fittest:
Upon their colony being built in the desert, other species of desert ants emerge trying to survive in the blazing sun. They will scavenge and attack everything they find, including your colony. You must grab and contain food faster than your adversaries while defending your nest from invaders as well. On the outside world, Large creature struggle to survive as well, this time they won't be kill able but avoidable. Be aware of lizards and birds, for they see you as a nutrition as a meal.
(Maybe a New Desert Biome or map):
A desert with sand all around the area with constant sand storms blowing through every 2 and a half minutes. Along with new creatures that would "MUST" be avoided at all times during your adventure through the desert wasteland. Including a constant supply of heat stroked animals and bugs to be a good food source for your colony to survive. But as a reminder, the sun will kill the ants under 10 minutes, get the meal 'FAST' and swiftly.
That used to be a thing in the original game "phase" so to say. They had a gif for it. I don't think it will make it though as many of those ants were cut.
*Sad Face* ;C
