Anyone here who beat Challenge 2 ?
Hey guys,

I really down know how to solve the second challenge. The ten wood spiders are too much - without them i would win this easily

Do you have any tips ? How did you solve it ?

25 Workers 7 / 18 all on gather food only and evade fight. 1800+ food in storage. To keep the reinforcments running. 75 Fighters in 2 Battle groups (I) 50 with 37 Melee and 13 Range, (II) 25 with 8 Range and 17 Melee. Stayed inside and kept BG I and II at the entrance. Gandalf type, "though shall not pass". Until the last wave, the 8 legged ones. Moved BG II immediately to the queen and they plus the Royal Guard where able to win against them, while BG I kept the entrance. All Ranged Lvl 2, half Melee Level 3, other Melee Level 2.
Trick, as with all Formicarium challenges, is just to grind royal jelly and food until your colony is as strong as possible in numbers, upgrades and stored food.

Specific to challenge 2, have Queen's Invulnerability upgrade and have half your ants camped on her towards the scenario's end to fight off the wolf spiders - the others should have no trouble holding off mere beetles at the nest entrance.
100 population: 10 workers, 40 melee, 50 ranged. ~1000 food in storage

Queen with royal guard and the 20 second invulnerable upgrades.

Ranged guys with the aoe on lvl 3.

I did each of the 1.1 and 1.2 4 times each. (easy, med, med, hard)

I guess that could count as "grinding jelly?" I was having fun.

Only real tactics needed were to toggle off combat for the ranged units so they would actually fallback to assist when the spiders get dropped in.

I do wish the queen upgrades could carry over or be purchased in the challenges though.

I storm the tubes where the enemy ants spawn. I use melee warriors vs woodants in the right top corner, melee and ranged vs melee enemies in the left top corner and workers vs workers in the bottom left corner. When bigger bugs are dropped, retreat to the entrance of the tunnel and they never get close to my queen (who has zero upgrades). All other ants full upgraded.

Feel like there is too much "luck" involved here. I start everything at the entrance and once he says "sustained" I move everything back to the Queen for the spiders. Every time, one or two nitwits decide they are going to stay in the hallway leading to the entrance instead of moving farther back. So as the sustained wave hits they encounter those few stragglers. "No big" I hear you say, "they will just die and respawn with the rest". Except what happens is they don't die before another pathing ant or two hits the fake front. And this plays out as such, I either let this continue and rapidly lose ants (food) until the spiders hit without enough resouces to continue fighting or I move everything up and the spiders kill the Queen.

All ants are level 3 and the Queen is upgraded. If those few stupid ants would just stay with the stupid group then the stupid spiders wouldn't kill my stupid queen.

Beat challenge 2 with:

-63 lvl 3 Black Ant
-24 lvl 2 wood ants (motor)
-About 2K food

Had a group of 40 black ants and the 24 wood ants guard the surface while 23 black ants guarded the entrance from below and acted as reinforcements.

At the end when you get endless wave and spiders, I actually stopped a few of the spiders on the surface but got overwhelmed quickly and I moved back my defenses.

The large group continued to defend the entrance but from below now as my smaller reinforcement group fell back to the queen. The spiders rushed past my defenses but the 4 of them that did were killed quickly by the 23 black ants around the queen. The eggs located near my queen also helped fend of the spiders by hatching even more warriors.

My queen did not even drop below 75% health to use abilities... then it was just a matter of mopping up the attackers in the corridor.

19 workers, 19 black ants, 15 black ants, 19 wood ants, 19 wood ants. All level 3 by farming 2.1, 2.2. Went mortar for wood ants. Put one group of wood/black by the door and one by the queen. Melted everything. If you don't have wood ants, i did beat it without them by using working ants to hold the enemy for a short while after my black ants were overrun in order to rally the black ants before sending them back in.

Edit: Also, 1400 food.

I finally did it too, with some of the tricks mentioned here and without any skills on the queen.

Just a short summary of the tricks:
- make multiple chambers for the soldiers, not one big
(I had 3 soldiers, and 2 of the distance fighters)

- 1 smaller group of soldiers around queen, other 4 groups (2 melee, 2 distance) on the entrance

- when the spider comes, the 1 group will protect the queen till you disengaged some more soldiers from the front

- disable fighting on some of the groups at the front and send them down to the queen, enable fighting again

- I started low on food, so between the waves I used workers to gather the seeds. I selected the worker ant skill where they dont get hit 95% of the time when not fighting. So my workers basically gathered and ran back followed by the next wave. Worked nicely.

Figured I'd check it out to see what the challenge entailed before picking upgrade routes on my ranged.

Base wasn't fully upgraded, had 300'ish food in storage before starting it.

1) Workers, 13 (+7 of the queen's), level 3, Melee buff, damage resist buff. Resources are not hard to come by so I didn't see a reason in upgrading the economy.

2) Melee, 2 groups, level 3. -Damage upgrade, no second upgrade. G1 had 23 ants, G2 had 18 ants.

3) Ranged, 17, Level 3, Mortar. No buff's chosen. Mortar is just way more powerful in my opinion. The majority of the challenges you face in this game tend to have multiple targets.

4) Queen, 1, Royal Guard Summon. No second upgrade.

***

A) Stacked up on top of the entrace with one melee group on each side and ranged in the middle.
B) When the third strain comes in had worker group run delay. Due to their melee buffs they hold out long enough to wipe out the other two lanes.
C) When the relentless wave came, I moved inside and choke pointed the tunnel. with melee infront and Ranged behind.
D) Set other workers to nest upkeep for faster larvae distribution network.
E) Wolf spiders go after queen, respawns from one melee, and ranged group path over queen. Guards get spawned.
F) Profit.

***

Obviously I started with minimal resources so I made sure to have the workers gather beetle kills, seed drops, as I could. If I had 1k resources banked wouldn't even need to do that.
