Device in broken bot room?

If your new at this game, heads up, potential spoilers..

So I found the broken bot on my first playthrough and shot him as he asked, got the achievement. However, I'm now on my second playthrough and I noticed there's a 'device'. It's the big blue crystal thing that's just down the slope on the right side of the broken bot. It said 'Press E' and I did... nothing happend though :/

Anyone knows what it does?
