Hive and Colonies

I'm accumulating my plantations now to get my first Hive.

I realise the Colony cost states 2 Hives and All of the lower tiered farming resources. Does this mean that, eg if I have 3 Hives, I'll still have 1 Hive left if I get a Colony?

Just checking that there are no bugs to this. I'll be sad if I lose 3 Hives instead. :(

Yes, buying Colony only consumes certain amount of hives instead of all of them.

So its good to have one more than recquired so they'll automatically build up again!... right?
