What's not so enjoyable is that some of the things (well, War in general) can be a bit clunky and War himself does not quite manage to be dumb in a good way, so he's just boring. So... I would say that you should give it a go for a bit longer. The first big dungeon (where you face the bat boss) will give you a taste of both the good and the bad of the game. Fun puzzles, some progression and a bad boss fight. So if it hasn't cliked by then, it DEFINITELY won't click.
The sequel, Darksiders 2, is considerably better, that one I recommend wholeheartedly, if this doesn't burn you out on the entire concept.
Darksiders 2 also happens during the 100-year period after the tutorial but before the game starts, so you COULD just jump straight to that one if you feel like giving it a go. It has a quite different feel, much more focused on exploration and rpg-like elements with a greater focus on building your skill tree and playing around with different equipment, etc....
I only have 11 hours in so far. To put it frankly, this game is a knock off of God of War 1 and 2 for the Playstation 2 but dressed differently and not in the same caliber as either games.
I totally love GoW 1 and 2 (beat them several times on all difficulties), but Darksiders kinda pales in comparison in story, visual spectacle and game mechanics.
But, be it as may, Darksiders isn't a terrible game either by any stretch and there are some highlights throughout each map, especially if you give it a fair chance to learn all the fundamentals of attacks and defense. Otherwise the game may be frustrating and tedious. (and boring)
Had I never played GoW 1 and 2, I'd be ignorant enough to say that this game is awesome because of it's unique hack and slash game play style. Unfortunately, I'm damned to have something better to compare it to. The only difference here, is the rpg'ish elements involved in your quests. GoW had something similar but nothing as fleshed out when it came to leveling up for upgrading your abilities.
It can get a bit grindy at times and well.. it doesn't always feel good playing it. The story is uninspired. Like I still don't care for War (god of War?) as a character after 11 hours. He says nothing. Ever. There's no personality trait in him except grinding his teeth. So take this game with a grain of salt. Its ok for a quick, cheap for fun, hack and slash with some rpg elements. I will finish my run and shelve it when I'm done.
If I want to be brutally honest... I'd say you may want to invest your time in a much higher quality game out there, since you don't like it so far. It doesn't get stupendously better in terms of content, but if you at least liked the combat mechanics at all, you might have gained more satisfaction after leveling up and having more experience with the controls. Some of it is fun.
The game isn't really worth the money when you can play any other ARPG which would have better gameplay, better story, and better puzzles.
