the only wrath power i used (and that rarely) are those spykes that come from the ground. the most important thing is to know your enemies movements and to attack and dodge (a lot of dodging) according to them. also, check out guide on where are locations of lifestones, and pick them all up. i used only 2-3 chaoseater combos 99% of time (the one when you charge towards enemy and stun them for a sec, and one when you spin in air and hit the ground hard). i upgraded those combos at vulgrim as soon as i had enough souls for that... also, a bit later in the game buy life essences from vulgrim, they come in handy. and don't forget chaos form when you encounter those frustrating mini bosses (which are more difficult to deal with than the actual bosses, in my opinion).
it's really nice challenge on apocalyptic but it's not unfair, although apocalyptic is much easier if you have already completed the game once, since you know all the little tricks and helpful stuff...

180 combo is good too if you are surrounded. You will basically dance with War among the enemies and be able to perform your basic combos not interrupted much.

absolutely get the scythe as soon as possible. The scythe and chaoseater both stun the same enemies the same way for the same time, but the scythe does a much larger sweeping attack and is extremely useful for dealing with a number of smaller mobs that can sometimes evade the swords stun and attack you. There are several areas also (pretty much every elevator, and many other places) where you can just hold block and use the charged attack with the scythe to stunlock the enemies too. In terms of wrath, I basically never use any of them (typically only the spikes), but thats just my playstyle. eg in Black Ops 2 I would use a gun and 5 perks, no grenades because I never use them. If you are the type to use grenades in shooters, pick the ones that sound the most useful to you, using them to patch areas where you may be lacking in skill.

I mostly use combination harpoon tackle, whirlwind combo and occasinally sword appercot, with swords, don't use scythe and spam earthbreaker on small enemies, regular demons, angels (if they're on the ground) etc. Main rage power was blade geyser especially when you can't dodge in time as it gives a small frame of invulnerability when you use it. Cross blade with rage modifier, as well as rage enchantment are good for the mid game, but on late I rarely use any gear, and you get access to much better enchantments, if you actively seek them.

The Scythe is helpful early on but once you get the whirlwind combo with Chaos Eater it becomes less useful. The only Wrath power I have used in my current apoc playthrough (no abyssal armor) has been Stone Skin. The game becomes pretty boring once you get the Tremor Gauntlet and the multi-ground pound move. Maxing out your counter for Chaos Eater is very helpful just remember for enemy combo attacks to perfect block into perfect block into the counter depending on how many hits the combo is. Buy all the upgrades for Mercy when you get it, it has been surprisingly useful for chipping at enemies further away. Always have the Combat Lore enhancement on a weapon since it passively gives your more armor.

I'm pretty sure the passive abilities are always on even when the enhancemet isn't equipped. At least it is on the Legendary enhancement that shows you where chests are on every map in the game.

I can't find any solid info on enhancements for this game. I'd have to perform the science myself.
