The Reader and the Beyonders share the same symbol?
So I noticed that the Reader and the Beyonders (Sandra's group in the Beyonder's Crystal) share the same symbol. Do you think this was intentional, or am I totally mistaken?

The Beyonders were sent by Kylamer Rope-Caller to assassinate Solium Mur and his allies. They failed, and were branded and trapped in the Crystal. So I assume after that the Commonwealth just decided to use the Beyonder's symbol to brand readers because literacy is also considered a capital crime.

That seems very possible!

If you look closely you'll also notice that volfred has the same symbol carved into his head because he was also an illegal reader

I would guess that the symbol is meant to represent banishment or exile. It's a five-pointed star with what looks a lot like a downward arrow drawn through the middle. It's kind of the opposite of the symbol of the Rites themselves, which uses something very close to the same star, but with the last line turned upward. The plain star seems to be a symbol of the Scribes, judging from things like the little symbol that _ae puts up in the wagon.
