What are Power Cast and Power Jump?
So during the two phases of the howler night there is text on the screen that details the tasks at hand and also is supposed to teach you about power cast and power jump in the form of "do x of this"-achievements.

All in the middle of fending of enemy waves, so I kinda wasn't able to calmly study the text and only cast and jumped a lot while kliing howlers in the hopes of doing something right.

And since Supergiant decided to remove player agency by only including a single autosave, I can't go back without replaying the whole game.

So would someone kindly explain to me what these two (I take it integral) game mechanics do and how to use them?

Thank you.

Release the button when you/your aura flashes and you/it will go further. The jump timing is almost impossible, though.

Thank you for the answer.

Is the flashing random or are there influencing factors?

The flashing isn't random, it happens at around the time you fully charge your aura cast. Just keep in mind the charge-up time varies between different races, along with some talismans changing it.
Also, I'm pretty sure Wyrms and Imps don't have a power cast but I might be wrong.

Wyrms for sure don't, since they have an instant cast. Saps also probably don't have that option. Not sure about Imps.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Saps. Thanks for reminding me.

If im not wrong the timing is tied to the character class (savage, nomad, etc). I found it easier just to jump into a practice rite and jump/cast around until i got the timing rather than looking for the flash.

Does anyone else find doing Mae's jump almost impossible? I have very good reaction times, and I'm pretty certain I hit that button well within the timing of the flash, but she wouldn't power jump. And other time's she'd perform a power jump before she'd even flashed. I feel like the timing is off.

personally i time it so i release the button just before she flashes. the timing is certainly tricky you need to get used to it

Yeah - That's the only way I can get it to work reliably. To let go just BEFORE the flash. I wonder if this is a bug, because power casting the aura is easy.

apparently its intended. I remember a developer talking about it in another thread

I'm trying to imagine someone saying this sentence in a way that isn't passive aggressive and whiny and I'm failing. How dare they make you deal with the consequences of your actions.

Try annoyed bordering on angry and thus openly critical.

And if you actually equate having to replay step-by-step 20 minutes of a game (just to catch some tutorial info previously missed due to bad game design) with 'dealing with the consequences of your actions', I do feel a little bit sad for you.

The mechanics for Power Cast and Power Jumping are mentioned again several times throught the game (loading screens, some masteries, maybe talismans as well). They are also completely non-essential to beating the game, even on heightened difficulty, so you're really making more of an issue out of this than it needs to be.

Its a trade off honestly. It gives more impact to your decisions but i agree that the way the game introduces power jumping and casting is not the most ideal as you are under pressure. most of the time they introduce new concepts before a rite and power jumping and power casting are a bit more complicated to get a grasp of than other concepts.
