(SPOILERS)Who was the first Exile that...
Who was the first Exile that you liberated and why did you choose them?

I chose Jodariel as she had been exiled for the longest time and deserved to get out as soon as possible. I liked her as a character but she didn't suit my playstyle in the Rites which was another deciding factor.
I also wanted to keep Hedwyn around as I felt he was a beacon of hope for the group and could do a lot of good staying with the Nightwings in Downside a bit longer.

I sent Ruckey.. it felt like he would be able to function on the outside alone the best. I saved Jodi for second to last as she was my main defender for a long time. Only the Nightwings went free!

Yeah, I mean none of the current team had anything to do with his betrayal, so he doesn't have the right to expect them to give up their freedom for him, imo. That's why I accepted Jodariel's deferrment to me and went up myself when given the choice at that point. She had her thing with Ignarius and would be fine, so I didn't feel bad about it. Oralech wasn't my problem.

Of my options of Jodariel, Rukey, and Gilman, I chose Gilman. I want to keep the original 3 together. Thats literally it.

I *wanted* to liberate Harp lady because I don't like her in the rites or the cutscenes, nor do i really care what she did to her sis. But it wouldn't let me.

Jodariel, for a few reasons.

1. I like her, so I wanted her to have her freedom.
2. The two characters that I do best with are Fae and Pamitha, and Jodariel wouldn't play with Pamitha, making her a hindrance.
3. My only options for sending were her, Hedwyn, and Fae, and since I wasn't about to get rid of my best player and Hedwyn was my third since Jodi wouldn't play nice with Pamitha, it basically made the decision for me.

Any opponents you wanted to free?

Tamitha was one I let go on accident. Pamitha's pleas made me feel bad and probably effected my match. I did place Pamitha up (I think) for freedom so it made even more emotional. But alas, I hate Tamitha and all she stands for after seeing what she causes if freed.

Dalbert and Almer was the other I let win. I placed -ae against them to make it hit home. And the fact she takes off her mask and talks with Almer during the match about wishing him and his father luck but knowing it's wrong/etc. was really heart breaking. I felt it weird Dalbert would go instead of Almer, but I let them win it. And the end was bitter sweet. -ae got her freedom later to join him. In my seoncd playthrough I planned on leaving Almer and -ae left behind... but the old dog and his son actually legit beat me. Having said that, it's hard to think I could crush their dreams. :<

I'm not sure on anyone else. I'm curious if they redeem themselves at all or if they are all better off left behind. Manley and Lendel come off as for the system/corruption. Oralech and Tamitha seem like they are more blood thirsty and dangerous. Sir Deluge and Barker may happier left behind. (I was tempted to do Barker but let go of Rukey too early to get more character dev.)

Ignarius! Maybe I'll fail the first one to let him go free.

.

Those pleas are horrible, aren't they? Seeing Pam begging to not let her sister lose, I just couldn't do it.Or Ignarius's, too. I took comfort on keeping Ignarius down because he and Jodi get together if you play 3 matches against him and keep both into the Downside. I also let Hedwyn down because he also get his waifu back even if he stays down there, and thats pretty much the reason he wanted back up. And then we get that message before the liberation rites: "The burden of deciding who goes free was too much for the Scribes to bear." (or something close to that), but it isn't on us, a single reader? :P Oh you Supergiant.

Perhaps I was the bad guy here, in making it a point to never lose a Rite, as there were certainly some deserving people, like Dalbert, Almer, and Orelech, but I had a Plan to fulfill and freedoms to earn. With this in mind, the first Liberation Rite went thusly:

Hedwyn, our Good Guy Greg and clearly a charismatic friend, not only was he deserving, he would be a clear asset on the other side, as we need someone for people to rally around, I never asked him what his crime was, only to find out later that he'd had a Harp girlfriend, a star-crossed relationship in the eyes of the corrupt Commonwealth, and a powerful symbol of solidarity when The Plan was enacted.

My options were between Jodariel, Ti'zo, and Gray (who I named Zhae). They were the only ones worthy enough by then. I would have liberated Rukey to let him be with his mother (I liberated him next), but I chose Jodariel because I saw no point in freeing Ti'zo lore-wise at that time.

I sent out Hedwyn, then Jodariel, then Rukey. The OG trio we made a pact with to get out together I sent out first while in the end setting Oralech free and spent the rest of my days wondering the downside with Sandra. The only others I didn't release was Ti'zo, Volfred and Bertrude.

This was the same for me. The only liberation Rite I lost was out of my own incompetence and not because I thought the other team worthy. In fact, it was against the Withdrawn so I was actually slightly horrified I let Udmildhe loose on the world above.

From then on I tried my best to get the teams I admired most into the liberation rites so they had a fighting chance at freedom, and there were a few teams I tried as hard as I could to prevent facing in the liberation rites as I felt them dangerous should they gain freedom (Such as the Chastity and the Essence, although I was a bit torn with Pamithas feelings for her sister).

Regardless I always tried as hard as possible to win the liberation rites for the good of the Plan, even when I faced the Fate, who I admired the most. That was a particularly heartbreaking Rite.
I really want to free Sir Deluge.

For me it was Hedwyn because he was the only one for whom i knew the background and why he was sent here. In the end i didn't sent Ti'Zo, because he was born here and had little reason to go to the commonwealth, __ae because she had nothing back in the commonwealth and bertrude because I let Oralech go free.
Westerland Aug 4, 2017 @ 9:30am
Jodariel, I sense that she is a valuable asset for the Plan, who could only have her worth in the Commonwealth. Also, she has been in the Downside long enough to deserve her freedom. Sadly, I never had the chance to know her story before she was liberated.
Livy Aug 4, 2017 @ 10:57am
My opponent. Decided to lose every Liberation rite on purpose.
