(SPOILERS)Who was the first Exile that...
Who was the first Exile that you liberated and why did you choose them?

I chose Jodariel as she had been exiled for the longest time and deserved to get out as soon as possible. I liked her as a character but she didn't suit my playstyle in the Rites which was another deciding factor.
I also wanted to keep Hedwyn around as I felt he was a beacon of hope for the group and could do a lot of good staying with the Nightwings in Downside a bit longer.

Hedwyn. I had the impression that he didn't enjoy fighting. I liberated Jodariel right after him for the same reasons as you.

Hedwyn. Seems like a good guy that did not deserved to be there.

Hedwyn, he is a nice guy and I gathered he would be a major asset to Volfred's plan. I guess it's going to be *ae in my next replay, I missed the man much more than I thought I would.

Fae Because I wanted to keep the core team together to hellp the others out and learn there storys.

Hedwyn. He's a capable and charismatic leader and a good friend. Whether he stayed or was liberated, he would be a valuable team member and would make a difference.

Sent Ruckey, he was one of the most "not attached to others" characters in the beginning. I also considered and did Jodariel in another run but I think Ruckey going first is more satisfatory for a first liberation.

Its a shame you can't develop everyone's story on a same playthrough.

Tizo because I didn't like it as a character or having to deal with its nonsense words when reading.

Ti'Zo. I was already planning on sending someone I didn't like as much, so I'd keep the people I wanted to learn more about. Hedwyn is a charming, sexy man that also seemed to serve as the glue of the group, Jodariel seemed to be the mother of the group and I didn't want to make her first after Pam told her so in spite, and Ti'Zo's fish conversation was adorable.

I was horrified when it said they had to be "worthy" enough and realized only those 3 were leveled far enough to be picked. I choose Ti-Zo as I was worried Jodi would feel horrible being the first sent and Hedwyn was my best fighter. Ti-Zo became the mascot of the new age, so I'm happy for the little guy.

Hedwyn, because he was a kind person and deserved it, I felt.
During my first game Jodariel. The second time around Ti'zo purely because on my first game I lost the final match due to having to play with the characters I didn't really use as much and didn't have a good enough feel for so I choose to liberate those characters first.

Hedwyn, both because he deserved it, and because he'd be good for the Plan. Then Jodariel because I felt awful for her, and didn't want her and Hedwyn unnecessarily separated.

Did anyone have characters they thought shouldn't go up? I felt like Fae was happier in the less-restricted Downside than she'd be in your more structured society. Ti'zo helped us from the goodness of his adorable little heart, but indicated no interest in going above. (Though, I read what happens if you send him up, and I thought it was cool.)

As an aside, I was surprised how I came around on Bertrude. I was actually going to liberate her, but came to that conclusion at the final Rite, and ended up freeing Orelach instead. I felt awful for how he was abused by the system.

Any opponents you wanted to free? I tried desperately to get Barker in a Liberation Rite, but wasn't successful. I ended up freeing Tamitha because of Pamitha's fervent plea mid-match. I decided that was, in its way, freeing Pamitha. And she basically agreed.

Tizo seemed happy in downside and it has been his home for a long time without him becoming miserable so I wanted to keep him there. With Bertrude it wasn't that I didn't want her to be liberated, it was more that I feel she didn't mind AS much as the others not being liberated as she too had made a home for herself in downside, so she was always near the end on my list.

The only real regrets I had were that the people left behind didn't have the rest of the group to support each other anymore. I felt that the group was actually happy and hopeful while they were a part of the Nightwings in the Rites and it was sad to see my remaining few with not many people left around them.

As for opponents I really wanted to see Dalbert/Almer be liberated but I couldn't bring myself to throw the game at the liberation rite. I gave them every fighting chance though.

My first playthrough I chose Hedwyn, then Jodariel for most of the same reasons mentioned above.

I allowed Dalbert/Almer to go free in their rite, won the other 5, and allowed Orelech to go free for the final.

This time through I'm keep Hedwyn and Jodariel a bit longer to get more of their character building.

Interesting that so many people sided with Orelech. I know that he has a tragic tale and was greatly wronged but I could never sympathize with the fact that he is so hostile towards Sandalwood, let alone the rest of the Nightwings who he doesn't even know.
