Those with a controller addiction will claim controller is best every time, those with a K+M addiction will claim Keyboard and Mouse is better everytime.
Me? I usually switch between them, given my mood. If I want to hang back and relax I'll go Controller.
I've started playing right now. I want to hang back and relax, but I'll see if controller is responsive enough. K+M is usually better for high stakes accuracy.
I was just about to bring that up! Helldivers... Jezus what a coincidenc!
My vote is for Keyboard and Mouse thus far. There's aiming involved and the mouse is simply a bit quicker and more exact at stuff like that.
When you work with the controller, you need to have you character face the direction in which you want to interact. That means you move and aim at the same time. That means that positioning is less careful.
With the keyboard and mouse, you can aim on the spot, seperating movement and aiming better. You're capable of more accuracy and the game responds better.
I prefered playing Helldivers with K+M too.
I'll say it again, M+K seperates aiming and moving better. I can aim on the spot with the mouse and you can aim quicker and more accuratly. With the controller, you're forced to aim and move at the same time.
Good luck both avoiding something narrowly and shooting at the same time with the controller!
I'll continue using the controller for other games, but Pyre clearly has a superior option for those who reguraly use both.
Now for a game like Helldivers, as was previously mentioned, K+M is far superior as aiming is a constant. Same with games like Doom and Overwatch.
Even though the game doesn't say "Controller recommended" at the beginning, it was still optimized and made for controller in mind and I say this because I know that this release was planned for multiplatform simultaneously.
Some games are designed to be more responsive with controllers. Of course you have first person shooters which rely solely on the accuracy of a mouse - so 16,000dpi is a must but thats pretty much it, other than that and let's face it... controllers still have some clear advantages over keyboard and mouse and in most cases the pinpoint accuracy of a nice mouse is rendered useless because of tha fact.
For example, driving games handle far better with a controller's analog triggers, platformers alaways play better with a controller. Hollow Knight players who use a keyboard and mouse are at an extreme disadvantage vs those who use a controller.
If there was an online mode for versus, I'd be willing to bet that keyboard and mouse users would be at a clear disadvantage for the rites in this game.
I'm not sure why people are having a difficult time believing that controller is superior to mouse and keyboard in some cases. This is a fact and there is plenty of evidence to support it.
Perhaps when I see a keyboard and mouse player beat Hollow Knight in the same league of someone who uses a cheap Xbox 360 controller then I'll believe that the fact of games like this being more responsive and optimized for controller use is suddenly just a preference or opinion but good luck finding the proof of that to prove me wrong.
Point being that keyboard and mouse are not always superior or even a good alternative. And like I said, if this game had an online mode I would be willing to bet that controller players would beat out the keyboard and mouse players pretty quickly. This isn't meant to offend anyone, this is just based off what I've seen from these types of video games in the past.
Interesting... very interesting.
Even though you said that it comes down to personal preference, I'm curious what the advantages of mouse and keyboard are in this game specifically.
As I said before, (talking about this game specifically) controller users would definitely have the clear advantage over keyboard userd in the rites portion of the game - which is the only competitive part anyways. True, it's easy to discredit this fact because there's no online function but it is common sense for those who have tried both control options.
