REVIEW MEGATHREAD
Metascore of the PS4 version based on 23 critics as of 04:45 PDT - 86;
21 positive reviews, 2 mixed.

I will keep updating this post as reviews come in.

IGN - 97
"It’s an epic journey that made me feel thrilled, devastated, and awed, and its tense moments had me tugging my collar both in and out of its fast-paced mystical sports arenas. With an emotionally charged ending that saw so much I’d striven for come to fruition, but was still tinged with tragedy and melancholy even when I did almost everything right, I won’t be able to get Pyre out of my head for a long time. This is Supergiant’s best work to date, and that’s saying something".

Polygon - 90 [www.polygon.com]
"Between that fascinating, open-ended approach to storytelling and its totally unique core gameplay, Supergiant Games pursued a vision for something new with Pyre, and the company has largely succeeded. Fans expecting more of the same may have to fight through some disappointment — especially if they want to be able to more thoroughly explore the nooks and crannies of the Downside. But Pyre makes a worthwhile trade-off here, exchanging the familiar for the fantastical".

Critical Hit - 90 [www.criticalhit.net]
"Pyre is a fun, deep and strategic game with a gorgeous aesthetic. But it's the way the music and themes stick with you long after the credits roll that really makes it a worthwhile experience".

Digital Chumps - 90 [digitalchumps.com]
"Pyre understands the primal thrill behind executing a dangerous slam dunk and the dueling probabilities of luck and dexterity necessary to make it happen. With Pyre, Supergiant Games' passion for systems-driven trials of skill and fondness for vibrant, wistful fantasy converge in the Mutant League NBA Jam daydream role-playing game I never knew I always wanted".

PlayStation LifeStyle - 90 [www.playstationlifestyle.net]
"It feels disingenuous to even try and write words about Pyre, another Supergiant masterpiece."

Playstation Universe - 90 [www.psu.com]
"If you enjoyed Supergiant’s previous outings of Bastion and Transistor, good news - Pyre hits another home run".

TheSixthAxis - 90 [www.thesixthaxis.com]
"Supergiant Games continue to burn brightly as an independent studio, with Pyre being their latest imaginative and fantastical adventure".

God is a Geek - 90 [www.godisageek.com]
"Not only is it one of the most beautiful games I've played in recent memory, but it has some new mechanics and ideas to keep you playing".

Gamespot - 90 [www.gamespot.com]
"Supergiant Games has created something special that lives on in your heart. And against great odds, it's invented a sport that could have stood on its own without the story it's attached to--but it's so much better because it is".

Gamespew - 90 [www.gamespew.com]
"Simply describing its spectacularly outlandish battle system doesn’t do it justice; upon playing it, it doesn’t take long to realise that it works – and that it works incredibly well. Pair that with a wonderful cast of characters, a riveting story, and enthralling music and visuals, and you have nothing short of a compelling game that demands your time and attention".

EGM - 90 [www.egmnow.com]
"Pyre mashes up point-and-click adventures, RPGs, and sports games—and comes out the other end with one of the more memorable stories we’ve seen in some time".

Game Informer - 88 [www.gameinformer.com]
"Pyre’s storytelling ambience, narration, art, and music work in concert. This gives the experience a singular identity, and the mash-up of role-playing and sports gameplay cements that distinctiveness. More showing and less telling could improve the pacing, and the lengthy travel and dialogue sequences have the potential to detract from the thrill of the “fights”.

CGMagazine - 80 [www.cgmagonline.com]
"Pyre’s battle system is excellent and delivers upon thrilling competitive play, but whether it has any future in that space could rest on whether it gets online play".

Destructoid - 85
"It might not be for everyone, but Pyre delivers on its fun gameplay in a way that beautifully illustrates the struggles of redemption and what it means to gain true freedom".

GamesBeat - 85 [venturebeat.com]
"Pyre backs up its eye candy with some pretty impressive world-building and fun gameplay, particularly in Versus Mode".

Stevivor - 80 [stevivor.com]
"Given the chance, Pyre opens up a world rich with lore to enjoy, and a variety of characters to throw headlong into magical bonfires. With both the story campaign and a multiplayer match mode available, it’s easy to get deep into the Rites yourself".

Gamer.no - 80 [www.gamer.no]
It's in norwegian, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trusted Reviews - 80 [www.trustedreviews.com]
"Pyre is one of the quirkiest, fun and most fascinating titles of 2017".

We Got This Covered - 80 [wegotthiscovered.com]
"Pyre is an audiovisual delight, with a mesmerizing, painterly art-style which is further complemented by some excellent, tactical gameplay, too. Simply put, it's a magical symphony of the senses".

Hardcore Gamer - 80 [www.hardcoregamer.com]
"Pyre represents another solid effort from Supergiant, as the awe-inspiring world, both in terms of design and depth, coupled with a lovable cast of heroes and villains, continue the studio’s renowned streak for titles with big heart and unique gameplay. The repetitive and overly-lengthy nature of the campaign, as well as a lackluster versus mode, holds the title back from reaching the same heights as its predecessors, but those looking for an original universe and an uplifting tale will be hard-pressed to find a deeper and better-looking game this year".

New Game Network - 78 [www.newgamenetwork.com]
"Pyre definitely suffers from structural issues, and doesn’t solidify into a truly great experience until its later half, but on the whole it’s another fascinating entry from Supergiant Games - and that second half is worth it. Somewhat flawed, but recommended nonetheless".

Twinfinite - 70 [twinfinite.net]
"Pyre is a diamond in the rough. Its sense of adventure and novel Rites are ultimately held back from realizing their full potential by a campaign that feels drawn out, static teammates, and easy enemy AI. There’s plenty to love here, and Pyre will most definitely worm its way into the hearts of many, but it doesn’t quite top Bastion as Supergiants’ crowning achievement".

USgamer - 70 [www.usgamer.net]
"As much as I loved everything else about the game—its world, its structure, its art, its music, its battle system—it missed the mark where it positioned it to matter most: in its story, its characters, and their righteous goal".

Eurogamer - Essential [www.eurogamer.net]
"Dazzling and mysterious, this ambitious party-based RPG is a masterpiece".

The Verge - N/A [www.theverge.com]
"Pyre is a mishmash of a game. Its world is culled from multiple influences, and the core of the experience feels like two very different titles stuck together. But, as with Supergiant’s past work, it all comes together in a very satisfying way. It’s an adventure where it only feels natural that you’d spend as much time poring over ancient books as you do throwing a magic orb around an arena, and I enjoyed chatting with swamp witches almost as much as I did turning them into powerful warriors".

Metascore of the PC version based on 6 critics as of 04:45 PDT - 85;
5 positive reviews, 1 mixed.

IGN - 97, the same review as for the PS4 version.

Gamespot - 90, the same review as for the PS4 version.

GOGconnected - 85 [cogconnected.com]
"After a bumpy start with its combat, Pyre lives up to its predecessors with its rich lore, stunning art design, and interactive narrative. With the choices that you carry out altering the story, Pyre‘s diverse cast of characters in such an imaginative world makes it one to return to after you beat it, possibly again and again".

Eurogamer Italy - 80 [www.eurogamer.it]
It's in italian, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Multiplayer.it - 75 [multiplayer.it]
"A wonderful world awaits you with beautiful art, superb soundtrack and a unique gameplay. Unfortunately Pyre loose itself after few hours, becoming repetitive and losing appeal".

PC Gamer - 71
"Pyre's campaign is repetitive and its combat never quite clicks, but a touching and thoughtful story makes it worth sticking through to the end".

Kotaku - N/A
"Pyre is interesting enough to play multiple times, but it can also be played just as a one-on-one sport. In the game’s versus mode, which pits you against either an AI opponent or against a friend on your couch. In the story, there’s a lot of narrative pressure to do well in the rites".

The 71 from PCG is a little out of place. 9/10 I agree with PCG's reviews, so I am really hoping this is that 1/10. I absoutely loved Transistor.

We're really happy to see the initial response so far. The reviews on the lower end are still thoughtfully considered and have interesting things to say about the experience (we think). We know our games aren't for everyone though if they can create a thoughtful and memorable and interesting experience for people out there, I for one am always going to be happy with that.

Also it's nice for us to see the reviews so far are generally within a similar range as Bastion and Transistor. Hopefully that's reassuring to those of you still on the fence, though of course your own experience with the game is ultimately all that matters.

Yah, I bought the game after reading a few reviews. Absolute madmen, you've done it again.

Very good reviews (and the fun I had playing Bastion and Transistor) made this an instant purchase for me :-)

Loved Bastion but Transistor was kinda boring for me. I'll deffinitly keep an eye on this game, however seeing the general reception is mainly positive.
Seeing good reviews for a game I'm looking forward to is always good but not necessary to validate my purchase. I have really enjoyed alot of games that get mixed reviews from Metacritic.

The fact that anyone even mentioned NBA Jam in conjunction with Pyre is badass. That single line has me more stoked than anything.

IGN gave it a 9.7/10
