How to Take Screenshots (Please Do NOT Use F12!)
As Tales Across Time does not support the Steam Overlay, taking screenshots is a bit different than usual. While I’m planning to integrate the Overlay in my next game (as it will use a different engine), it was impossible to add this feature in Tales Across Time.

To make matters worse, one of the standard Steam Screenshot hotkeys – F12 – causes Tales Across Time to restart; again, this is due to the engine I used to create the game.

Thankfully, Steam user StealthMomo created an excellent guide to uploading screenshots in games which lack the Steam Overlay:

Big thanks to StealthMomo for writing this guide, and to Cassima28 for introducing me to it on the 8-Bit Adventures forum!

To take screenshots of the game, use the Print Screen (PrtScn) function button on your keyboard and then paste the image into an image manipulation program, such as Paint.

If you have any issues with this process, please post below. Thank you!

I don't see anywhere in that guide that describes how to actually produce a screenshot from the game, just a method for uploading them.

That's...actually a very good point. I've updated the initial post with a bit more information - thank you =)

Is there an option to disable F12 as restart game in RPGMaker? (Just in case someone plays the game without checking the forum first, something I do often.) Or perhaps to remap the restart game key to F10 or some other key?

Hi comp9,

I've honestly tried to do so (I think there's still a bit of code in Tales Across Time which is intended to disable F12), but sadly without success. Additionally, there's no way to remap the key. I have no idea why it's so stubbornly programmed, but I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.

Thankfully, RPG Maker have learned and not only has the key been moved in the newest iteration (RPG Maker MV) to F5 (which I'm hoping to disable), but I should be able to integrate the Steam Overlay - including taking screenshots with the press of a button.

I'm sorry it's not a better answer, but you've definitely got me thinking about it haha. If I figure out a way to sort this out, I'll update the topic!
