Katana Hero is different from the manga

The anime seems to be very different to the manga, a lot of the violence was changed, probably because it was aired around 5pm (when children were getting back from school) and staying true in that respect would cause an outcry from parents.

It also misses out how Hero and Goro trained together (as shown in a flashback where they saved an old man from an evil spirit and got a toy shark from his grateful son as a reward). And why Goro attacked the hospital, he was there to banish a spirit who controlled his brother, he almost got caught when his brother told him "What would our mother think?" and attempted to attack him in that moment of vulnerability. Then Goro punched him in the stomach and he vomited the spirit into the toilet.

However, despite these flaws, it is still a masterpiece and the best adaptation of the manga thus far.

Actually pretty sure the game is adaptation of the kid's anime version made five years after the fact, same reason why certain chapters like when Hero infiltrates the town jail to banish the evil spirits, only to find out out Goro was the one to do so earlier in the night were cut from this version. But you can very clearly see the change in the ending, with Dr. Hojo simply being forgiven instead of being brutally sentenced to five days community service like in the manga
