Will this game be for me?
I'm not a big platformer player nor do I like roguelikes. Does this game have any kind of permadeath system? I would be interested in playing it for the visuals and the story, dunno how hard the game is in terms of its mechanics and general difficulty. Can somebody tell me a bit more about the mechanics without spoilers.

You die in one hit. Most enemies too. Every time you die, the area you're in resets, and you try again, until you beat it and move to the next area. You DON'T reset the whole level, amount of resets is unlimited, and most areas are fairly small so that retries don't drag out.

I'd compare it to Superhot - they have a lot in common. Very little platforming here, and literally nothing in common with roguelikes.

sounds more like Hotline Miami to me, I own HM, maybe I should try that out first, to get a feel for it. But thx for the info!

I really dont understand the comparisons between this and HM. Its not much like that, but its really similar to mark of the ninja tho.

Either way, its not permadeath, you only restart segments that are only a few minutes long, and i dont feel like its going to have much platforming either, but then again, i just bought it, so idk.

The mechanics are quite similar to mark of the ninja. Sidescrolling, action game, there is a button to slow time, there is another to dodge attacks, difficulty seems to be high, but restarts take only a tiny amount

Edit: Okay, so, basically, this is mark of the ninja, with a highly detailed pixel artstyle, and hotline miami's quick restart and instadeath attributes.

It really doesn't feel like a platformer. The focus is on quickly defusing a situation rather than navigating past obstacles, so the levels feel more like arenas than anything else. Some of them even have single-use projectiles that you can pick up. You have some movement options (wall jump, I-frame granting roll, attacking to slightly extend mid-air movement, fast landing), but those are more for positioning than jumping over holes.

Think Hotline Miami + Mark of the Ninja and you won't be far off. Platforming is minimal, but it is still there. That being said, one of the best gaming experiences I've had in quite some time! :)
