Launcher Requirements? Ubisoft Account For Single Player?

Seeing it's a single player game, it seemed odd to me that it requires an Ubisoft account. Does it also require some launcher other than Steam (such as Epic Games, EA Origin, Blizzard's Battle.net, etc)? Or just Steam?

Like, what is the specific nature of this account requirement...?

All Ubisoft games require Ubisoft Connect(formerly UPlay) since 2012.

Is that a launcher or just an account you log into within the game?

it is a launcher. You have to load up once for it to activate the DRM...after that you can play offline with both launchers set to that mode!

if you own the game on ubisoft you wont be able to play it now since steam wont show you own it even though you have the accounts linked
