The solution that worked for me was to run GRW.exe and UbisoftConnect.exe as Administrator. Reason chatgpt said was because the game didn’t have permission to launch properly, or Ubisoft Connect wasn’t allowed to hook into Steam correctly without elevated access.
Here were the steps:
• Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wildlands\
• Right-click on GRW.exe > Properties
• Under Compatibility, check Run this program as administrator
• Do the same for the Ubisoft Connect launcher: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\UbisoftConnect.exe
• Launch Steam
All the best!
Dont know if that helped anyone?
The recent Steam update yesterday wasn't about the game itself, Ubisoft (they do it very often) just updated UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe - launcher installer - they distribute along the game. It's located in \steamapps\common\Wildlands\ folder.
Lots of other Ubisoft games on Steam were updated the same way recently.
this was downloading in Steam specificly for Ghost Recon Wildlands.
If it was Ubisoft Connect Launcher update
there would also have been an update for my Assassins Creed Valhalla that i also had installed which there wasnt.
Also here's the proof. No patches[steamdb.info] for Wildlands on Steam db since 19 September 2023. But Last Record Update was 14 April 2025 – 08:32:03 UTC (2 days ago), Because Ubisoft Connect was updated[steamdb.info] at that time 2 days ago. And UbisoftConnectInstaller.exe in Wildlands folder now has 14/04/25 date. And here's the list[steamdb.info] of all affected games.
Good that it works for some now.
I personally did not have a problem with Wildlands.
Getaway with what? Both games work fine right now. Except Blacklist is asking login and password each time you launch it, cause it uses an older user identification method.
You have a different issue.
Shows why executives really are just a drain on businesses.
