EMP Drones
They evidently deliver very weak electromagnetic pulses, insufficiently capable of permanently disabling vehicles, yet powerful enough to knock out SAM installations. Many times, even with all relevant skills maxed out, the EMP drone may not immobilize targeted vehicles. Considering the evidenced area of effect, I find this most strange; how can that drone hit several stationary vehicles in a defined radius, incapacitating them, and not stop the target vehicle in a convoy? It makes no gawdamned sense. I know what I'm talking about, as this was one of the things I did in my job in the US military.

It's a common misperception that one can protect equipment from EMP damage by powering them down before an EMP burst. If there are wires or electronic pathways, powered or not, they will be hit, and if the burst is strong enough, they will be burnt out beyond recovry, permanently, until the affected components are physically replaced. Only when an EMP is weak can equipment recover.

The EMP drone is not realistic in this game.

I haven't used it in a very long time because of the unreliability. The only time I might use it is when hunting convoys with human teammates. I mainly use Noisemaker when I'm playing normally, Explosive Drone when hunting convoys using AI teammates, and Medic Drone with human teammates.
This "grand design" is there to fail you at every moment with unreliability, from spawning a chopper inside an Unidad base to an ineffective EMP drone. Apart from that I find it intriguing that the scientists at La Unidades have discovered the practical application of a space bridge. It ain't hypothetical no more. And most of all, they have shared this wonderful tech with Santa Blanca. Appearing out of nowhere is a realistic trait that only a few people understand, or probably it is the doing of Jace Skell.

It's a game, I know this from my job stacking shelves in a shop. I used almost exclusively the EMP drone. In game it permanently destroys power plants, it temporarily stops vehicles though it is not 100% reliable even with largest AoE. Also, the vehicle still needs to come to a stop, so many times the effect has worn off by the time I get to the vehicle and they drive off. Also, quite often, if you use it on a helicopter they will fall out of the sky, not blow up and then can magically take off again...

It's just a game, most things in the game are not realistic. That explosive drone, once you blow it up you magically have another one 20 seconds later on infinite supply... Medic drone... sure.

Just think of the emp drone not as an emp but as a magical "stun vehicle" drone.
Don't use the EMP, use explosive drone, very useful in some missions. Vehicles that are hit don't go anywhere. But be careful when using it against Unidad choppers. They can render your drone useless and forces you to fast travel to check points for a reset.
So what EMP weapons did you use in the US military?
The thing with EMP bursts is that they permanently fry electronic circuits, literally burning them out as they are short-circuited by the electrical currents generated when the conductors are hit. There isn't any "recovery;" they don't "get back to normal" after a little while. They are completely fried. It's not just energized equipment that is affected in this manner; anything that has electronic circuitry, energized or not, is burnt. Anyone that knows anything about electrical engineering will tell you the same damned thing. The drone EMP weapon in this game is not representative of reality. This was part of my job in the Navy. Advanced Electronics was why the Navy recruited me in the first place.
Experience with drones per se is not necessary...not when your job was electronic engineering. I helped track drones, but did not actually guide them. Now, it is possible to generate a sufficiently weak EMP that might temporarily incapacitate—which will almost certainly permanently damage IC chips (which modern vehicles require to funtion) that can be killed by mere microvolts—those featured in this game are far too powerful to permit recovery. It's not me talking out my ass—it's science.
