I thought I could avoid downloading the Uplay client if I bought the Steam version. Thought maybe I could sign into my Uplay account in-game or something.
So, yeah. I did buy it on Uplay after all.
I'm not opposed to Uplay or Ubisoft, btw. I'm actually a big fan of most of Ubisofts games. It's just GoG, Steam and Rockstar launcher were plenty and I didn't want to add another one. But since it looks like many Ubisoft games are going to be exclusive to Uplay in the future I just bit the bullet and downloaded it.
-> also the last game that did NOT require Uplay was AC:2 ..even AC2:Revelations was already tailored for Uplay.. that was end of 2011
@new players with similar questions:
Steam-versions have to be linked to Uplay (now Ubisoft Connect)
ofc there is none, since they don´t use SteamCloud even.. and basically everything is just the Uplay game it was made to be
I've been a console player until just a year ago, so all the Ubisoft games I've ever played were on console.
