Permadeath hard difficulty
Anyone wanna share tips or war stories? Just had my third or fourth restart. I seem to be consistently dying after about 200 kills at level 11 or so about midway through the second province. How far are people getting? Last time was a transponder defence where my team, rebels, and support group all seemingly dissappeared after 30 seconds and left me surrounded by at least 3 groups. /pfff

There are bugs that can kill you unfairly. For instance, you can get caught in a rock crevice when trying to evade enemies, and they can kill you like a fish in a barrel. If you go down (bleeding out) and your game freezes or crashes at that time, you will probably find that the game killed you, even if a friend could've revived you. Or you can fall through the ground and die, and any number of other bugs can kill you. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you 'save' your games often when doing Ghost mode:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUW1OELZ0PA
That said, I can get past the aforementioned point (with the help of friends), but I have been playing for three years too. Not only that, but I don't play with 'enemy detection clouds' turned on - it is imperative that you spot all enemies before entering each area. And there are several things you can normally do in the campaign, that I would not recommend you do in Ghost mode, because of the risk, or at least wait until you have taken most of the perks, AND ALL YOUR human TEAMMATES get the MEDIC DRONE and full drone range - AND EQUIP the MEDIC DRONE only. You, and your team, need to prioritize getting the medic drone.

#2 recommendation: use the crossbow 99% of the time!

Perhaps the problem is that you are trying to concentrate on doing the story missions before you get most of the perks. Your chances of dying reduce exponentially when you have all the perks AND BONUS MEDALS (exc. some mostly useless ones). My recommendation is that you avoid the story missions, especially the ones that attack significant enemy compounds, until you have filled most of the perks ('Skills'). Another recommendation: DON'T ACTIVATE TIER MODE UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED THE STORY MISSIONS!

Use stealth, and 'hit and run' tactics, when they detect you quickly run around the area to a different side, DON"T try to pick more off, you will only escalate them and cause more reinforcements to come in. As soon as they are alerted, cool it and wait for them to de-escalate before continuing your attack or infiltration. This means you need friends that also do the same thing - loose cannons are unacceptable and will get you killed.

Supply Convoys: destroy these only with small chaingun helicopters, there are plenty of places across the map where you can steal them. Or you can use the "Santa Blanca Helicopter" - the forward missiles and side chaingun large helicopter, just shoot the escorts with the missiles (lock-on, 230-299m distance) and then fly so your friend can shoot the target truck with the gattling gun to 1-49% health level. With the smaller heli, do the same technique, shoot the escorts first then the target truck, staying far enough away that you don't take damage too fast. Watch the road ahead, be aware of upcoming enemy hotspots and don't disable/stop the target in a bad spot - and if you do just abandon it. IF you watch closely for nearby threats - such as SAMS, compounds, Unidad, or nearby enemy helicopters - you can do the supply missions extremely quickly without a great risk to your life. Avoid the SAM areas - avoid Media Luna, the combat outpost are in Southeast Koani, the outpost in southern San Mateo, central Pucara, northern Montuyuc and the "training base" area in the east, and the entire Flor De Oro.

Vehicle Drop-off missions, use the exploit: spot all the enemies inside (rebel spotting ability), then SHOOT them all through the walls (you cannot shoot through ceilings/floors/roofs) using guns with great penetration - MG 121, HTI, and heli chainguns - being careful not to cause an explosion near a door. You will need to move around to find angles where you can kill each one, including elevation. Watch for enemy reinforcements coming in, in many places that won't even happen. Then after they are ALL dead, just blow a door and run in and do the mission.

Truth is.. "Ghost Mode" it´s very challenging WITHOUT EXPLOITS and BACKUP savefiles, and IF played SOLO :grwskull:

That said, most Players cheated their way to get that stupid Exo-Gear and a ton of Crates. Without those free Crates, most players would not even bother :steammocking:
Halloween made some good points already. Imho, ..
- with smart Coop team you´re unkillable.. (Healing Drone ftw)
- Suppressor is a must..
- FallenGhosts helps a lot with a nice Xbow
- don´t get cornered with UNIDAD.. run once it escalates or they hunt you down.. promise :D:
- note: You can´t die during a mission.. never. The only problem arises, if the mission fails and you´re still in a fight.. worst case you´re down and wait for revive... IF your team dies NOW, that´s it.. next try. Same for Anti-Air-missiles hitting your Helicopter.. 50:50 chance to get your team killed :brawler:

I've cleared Ghost Mode three times, managed to get Tier level 1 twice, died 5-10 times, no backup saves needed.

Tips depends how you play, I had enemy markers, objective markers, detection clouds and minimap off, except on first try I had minimap on. So far easiest save was the one where I got maxed Rebels skills quite early and used them a lot.

It helps a lot if you have completed each mission at least once, because there's basically 0 randomization to enemy spawns and their routes at mission areas.

Take it slow, scout most enemy positions, remember their routes.
Takeout snipers and power generators.
Use Medic drone to revive teammates, when you get detected, call rebels, take distance and use sync shot + rebels to take out remaining enemies or leave area.
Do not try to stay engaged with Unidad, you will die.
Learn this map https://i.redd.it/go5b3nkqtit01.jpg and you can use helicopters and airplanes safely.
When you are near few enemies, it helps a lot if you use pistol or melee to takeout enemies, because of detection range.
Rebel mortar and vehicle missions are a lot easier if you call rebels to help.
Prioritize what you need first, there's not necessarily need to do mission x at area y, you can come back later to finish it.

Hey fun posts. I tried extreme difficulty and abandoned it after peeking my head over a rock to ambush a car 30 feet below only to have its passengers instantly turn vertically and head shot me. literally the first transponder defense... pfff. didn't they take 10 months to plan the bin laden raid? after that switched to "normal" difficulty with permadeath. great so far. about to clear my second province. fun tips. frankly i enjoy taking out convoys more than anything and always get the grenade launcher asap. great tips shooting through walls and the health drone. tempting to learn that save game routine but i'll probably just rough it. do you guys have any trouble buying orange boxes? it says its middle mouse button but nothing ever happens.

yeah amen. i almost never fly now. first death was an aa missile. extremely risky being up there. much caution. crossbow really that good? don't think you can get exploding bolts till 30+ right? i just don't feel safe unless i have a medium assault rifle with a grenade launcher. everything else just seems niche. did do one of the tower assaults with a smg but i try really hard to keep the handling level high. already have 3 snipers behind me. then you run into that, its me or this helicopter moment...

frankly i love how it changes the gameplay. so much more present and cautious. if i start getting tired, just have to take a break. sometimes spend a lot of time doing recon. much more satisfying than the regular game frankly.

only other tip i can think of is going after big bases at night when you have superior stealth and evasion. shooting the lights out to maximize stealth. i always keep an escape route open with a vehicle ready to go.

really easy to imagine implementing other game features into this one. splinter cell/asssassins creed wall climbing, non-lethal weapons, and witcher/cyberpunk hookers.

Regarding Crossbow:
It´s somewhat OP under the right circumstances.. Why?
- basically silent Kills from 5-200m.
- like a SniperRifle, just lacks some long range
- requires NO RELOAD :D:
-> BIG DOWNSIDE: no Penetration, which makes it also extremely unrealistic :steamfacepalm:

Note: exploding bolts and special abilities only work in FallenGhosts

True.. I covered that in Quick-Start guide. Same here.. must be my SplinterCell habit :grwskull:

hmm. just hit level 27 on my normal difficulty permadeath run. six provinces cleared. pretty much the only weapon i ever use is a panoramic sight assault rifle with a grenade launcher. was really impressed how good the 556 is with a short barrel btw. just started using the AUG. Seems like I concluded during my campaign run that the ACR was the best. With only one weaopn and the need to go from tower raids to convoy heists, to long range sniping, i can't think of anything that comes close. maybe there is some good mojo in being a deep woods stalker tho and slowly building up your rating haunting the cartel.

Lol.. Stealth gets rewarded. You need to kill less targets, thanks to strong bonuses :brawler:
At Tier11 normal kill is just 14-24XP.. against strong enemies like HeavyGunner 70 /Sniper 88
-> but a stealthy Sniper-kill gets you "undetected" + "Headshot" and results in 264XP :grwskull:

The 556 is quite average.. especially with a basic Sight. AUG is ok, but TAR-21 and MDR are superior. Also, once enemies get harder and better armored (especially UNIDAD), they don´t die easily from Grenades and 2-3 Shots can kill you. That´s why direct assault without Rebel troops becomes highly suicidal :D:

well i run suppressor full time... you looked at the short barrel stats tho on the 556? just switched to my tier 1 campaign guy, back to acr with short barrel.

Well, Stats are always the same for one attachment-type :D:
But ShortBarrel is hampering you especially in GhostMode, where you only have one Weapon-slot + Handgun. That means your weapon must be a good Allrounder because you can´t swap to SniperRifle or equip additional SMG.

556xi is not bad, but it´s more on par with Aug A3 or Bren A2.. better penetration, while lacking in other departments.
The ACR is just a slightly weaker TAR-21.. really good choice :brawler:
(Btw, thanks for pointing out.. ACR now added to Guide)

those tower assaults tho. stats aside the tar just makes me cringe. its aesthetically awful and i literally can't imagine the ergonomics working out. acr is imo the best looking rifle in the game. just became my number one in total kills. had an oh **** moment on permadeath. hit 45 and game said arcade difficulty was now removed. i had played normal difficulty to that point. paniced and went and got the acr. then the key attachments. extended stock seems perfect and buffs handling, 30 rnd clip, grenade launcher, panoramic sight and suppressor. nothing else. read your comments about short barrel then had a guy survive 5 hits in a tower assault. currently running standard barrel. level 41 and still rolling. acr is level 8.

yes
GogglezDoNuffin Feb 17, 2021 @ 7:33am
For me highest factor for which gun I prefer, was recoil (they're not that different compared to CSGO for example though), most assault rifles move to right, some more or less, then which attachments it supports, particularly barrel/stock.

I have 6 assault rifles each with 2-7k kills, and all I can say, stats do not matter that much, especially since in many cases they're wrong and doesn't represent actual in-game performance, some players have done testing about them and shared their findings. Mk 18 for example doesn't have like 2x more dmg like it looks from stats bar, some range stats are way lower for weapons etc.

IMO better way to look them is how each attachment performs and what does it add, positive or negative to your prefered playstyle and just disregard stats.

For example long barrel=longer range, more recoil, higher dmg (although not always -1 bullet need to kill vs normal barrel). Short barrel is exact opposite, vertical grips=faster aim down the sight speed and more horizontal recoil, short/folder stock does the same. There's more different type behavior to them, but CBA to type wall of text about them.
