Binoculars & Drone Scanning Disables Marking Targets...WTFF?

I bought the Uplay version, hence no ownership icon in Steam. All of a sudden, upon starting the "find the warden's computer" mission, instead of LOOKING at objects and enemies, the devices SCAN them, and this has disabled the target-marking capability. Does anyone know WTF is going on, how to turn off that gawdamned scanner?

I may have answered my own question, but I'll leave it up if anyone else experiences this. Quitting to menu does not work. You have to quit to desktop and relaunch. After that, the drone and binoculars stop malfunctioning. I had not wanted to do that because quitting to either menu or desktop represented a significant inconvenience, allowed the horde of enemies I'd recently killed to respawn and the all offensive equipment I'd decommissioned to be repaired.

I noticed once while doing the Bervechos mine mission that the drone would'nt mark for sync shot but instead was scanning. I tried a few things but by pure chance, hit the 'sweet' scan spot. The info popped up with the scan and we carried on as usual.
So the next time you have the drone scanning, let it scan whatever needs scanning (which is usually a village, town or installation) and once done it will revert to a 'normal' drone that will perform the functions that you require

I've also noticed that the drone and binoculars show "warning" signs of the impending malfunction: Either of them will scan for a long time, and then will allow marking of targets. When I see that, I make sure I've saved, and quit to desktop so that I may relaunch to enjoy normal operation.

If I experience the endless scanning / no marking problem again, I hope I can remember to record it so that those "in the know" might be able to educate me about something that I may well be ignorant of.

Shamelessly necro'ing this thread, i am currently having this problem, using my binoculars & using the drone turns off all spots, friendlies, rebels, and enemies, the blip over their heads are all gone, very frustrating, any fixes or news?

It happened to me I just rebooted the game. and it fixed it. Same with my drone not working at all (pressing Z did nothing) had to reboot game. Reloading (quitting to main menu and pressing continue worked)

Also to assume it never happened to 1 person means it happens to no one is absurd, and the response that "it must be a mod" is ridiculous. this game barely has any mods and im willing to bet most people play base game. Software conflicts (even such as windows 10 vs windows 11) can cause conflicts, although in this instance I do not believe it is a software conflict. (well.. *I* play vanilla ... i guess i cant speak for the OP)

Oh, I can second that one. I've dealt with people like him since high school (early 80's) who think because they never saw something happen, NO ONE saw it! He also claims no one has ever had a PC virus (which he blames for game issues) since XP SP2 and that using an antivirus is stupid. He reacts with such hostility toward anyone who disagrees with him. I don't engage with him and unsubscribe from any threads he's on, so I don't see any more of his insanity.

Matter of fact, I wonder why I never just blocked him. Well, here goes!

Only time I have seen this is happen when drone is scanning a location (or convoy) in the distance. When scanning is interrupted because you look elsewhere you can't tag NPCs or use sync-shot. The scan needs to be completed first, so check what was being scanned. When that is done your drone will work as it should again.

Most of the time fast travel solves a lot of issues, also when drone isn't working at all.
