Confused about how DLC works
I'm thinking of getting this game, specially if it goes on sale, but I'm not sure whether to get just the base game, Season 2 pass, or base game + some DLC. I don't mind paying a bit more for extra content that is fun but doesn't make the game easier.
For instance, I don't mind paying for a powerful new weapon to be in the game, as long as it can be found in the world and there's some challenge in getting it. But what I don't like is to load the game and find that my character has the weapon available right there without any effort.
So how does DLC work in this game? Do you have to search for and earn the new content in the game, or does your game character have the new gear (weapons, cars, clothes...) the minute you download it?

Read the Store pages carefully for any content before you buy, as these will list everything that comes with that purchase.

If you purchase weapon packs, those weapons do pop in your inventory automatically.

The Year 2 Pass comes with the following:

With the Year 2 Pass, unlock the 6 Year 2 Ghost War Classes with a one-week early access to fine-tune your tactics before anyone else.

The Year 2 Pass also grants immediate access to:
- 8 Battle Crates (4 Spec Ops Crates + 4 Ghost War Crates)
- The Splinter Cell Pack (including 1 weapon, 1 weapon skin, 1 CQC move, 2 NVG Goggles, 1 pair of gloves, 3 camos)

The Season Pass comes with Narco Road, Fallen Ghosts, and Unidad Conspiracy missions, plus 3 equipment packs.

Thanks for elaborating Insulin. Sounds like the season pass might not be for me. I'm not very interested in competitive multiplayer, so the concept of paying for getting certain gameplay before other players doesn't appeal to me.
Also, not interested in any crates that are going to give my game character an advantage from the get-go. It's a shame that you can't buy gear so you can add it to the game world, enabling for interesting emergent gameplay where you have to go find it (for instance, to get the new weapon but have to take it from a powerful enemy NPC).
Not sure about the Narco Road & Fallen Ghosts content either as from what I read you have to play a separate game with a different character, and none of the content goes into the main game. The Unidad Conspiracy missions seem like they might be interesting, but at this point it seems you can only get them with the Season Pass. Doesn't sound worth it to pay for the whole season pass for jut one bit of content that might be interesting.
So if I do get it I think I'll just go for the base game.
