Desperately need help - absolutely stuck

Ok, I've reached the infamous 'protect the union leader' mission and I cannot do it.

For love nor money, I can't keep him alive for more than 30 seconds. He runs out, dies, and regardless of how many traps I set up he's dead within the blink of an eye.

I can survive fine, but a mission in which the AI makes the escort target just run around like an idiot and die repeatedly is not very well designed.

I've tried getting him to bug out and stick in that building on the four pots, but that didn't work either, he just walked out again.

The game just kills him and there's nothing I can do about it.

And yes, I brought in guns for hire and that didn't help either.

Unless there's a miraculous way around it? Have I missed another genius solution?

Bug, ifnyou already started the game and still happens the same ypur save is bugged... imo

You have to take out the attackers before they get within range of union guy. They come in waves and always from the same directions. Destroy vehicles before they get out. Lot of running. They come in vehicle first from the front, on left and right, then they come from the back on foot, left and right, then the front again in vehicles. Don't try this mission until you have a fully upgraded LMG.

I figured out a better way by pure luck. I laid a bunch of mines, put my squad around him in the building and put him on the plant pots. He stayed put.

This was before he started his speech. The dramatic music kicked in, but he didn't make the speech and after 10 minutes and just one wave of bad guys, it gave me the mission.

Which is fine by me, Buggy poor shambolic mission!
