Sam Fisher - How to ruin a game with one mission
So. Have the game on Uplay (around 15h) and genuinely enjoy it a lot. Playing solo partially because I cant be bothered with coop and random teammates and none of my friends play this. Despite the Ubi-game issues and repetitive nature, I was having an absolute blast with this (ignoring the crappy attempts to sell you useless nonsense).

Then it came. The Sam Fisher mission. The little chiming demon from hell that wouldn't piss off every 21:00 and 04:00. So screw it, I went for it. And... now I see why people hate this game. If a memo was passed at the Ubi offices stating "how do we exemplify EVERY nuisance and poor mechanic that Wildlands has in one go?" then whoever made this mission got a raise.

Now, my complaint in this isn't that the mission is hard. It's challenging, but doable. No. My issue is that it not only doesn't fit in with the rest of the game in any way shape or form, but it highlights issues that were otherwise well obfuscated.

Starting with the simplest point. "Don't kill anyone". Ok, a curve ball. Cool idea, even though the game is most certainly not designed for that type of play, it is a possible approach to any base in the game. Few failures later... hmmm... enemy AI seems to be looking at the only entry path available to me and not moving like they did according to their patrol path before. Cool. Another failure. Diversion lures now seem to be sending AI enemies away from them rather than towards them... o...k. Gathering a showcase of bugs now it seems.

Fine. Got through the sneaky bit with some luck and AI pathing not going mental. Sit through the absolutely cringeworthy dialogue by Sam Fisher and realise just how awful the writing of the game is. The completely unironic approach to the jingoistic dross was embarrassing the first time, let alone the 5th or 6th. And then the "sit and defend a room with only windows" gameplay segment. Here I found out that the throwing arm of my character when it comes to mines is akin to a little girl's, that the mines have a radius the size of a tennis court and that that radius isnt quite enough to kill an enemy convincingly half the time. Now that the game has given me a good reason to think two of the 6 gadgets it has are completely useless it also demonstrates that the otherwise inoffensive (if unimpressive) friendly AI is actually completely retarded. By the 3 time you die by being shot in the back of the head by an enemy standing literally in the middle of your 3 buddies while they just stare at him, the desire to continue this game draws to a close. I truck on. Kill the enemies, stay safe, try to call in some support and... cant use order wheel while moving... killed trying to call in support.

Right. Screw it. ♥♥♥♥ this mission. Gonna do something else.

BING! 21:00 - Sam Fisher wants a chat...

♥♥♥♥ off game...

well.. just ignore or skip that mission. Why should one mission ruins your fun with the game?

It is entirely possible, I have completed many in game missions stealthily without killing anyone.

The mission is kind of hard even on this difficulty, so I suggest a weapon you’re competent with + some rebel support,

but if you want the mission done, I recommend:

(Set to Arcade just go get it over with)

1. Take a helicopter, and parachute directly into the main building. Fast and easy.

2. After talking with him, mine the building, then camp at the staircase.

3. After surviving the waves, the hardest part is escaping, I suggest jumping over the back, and trying to get to a armoured car or something. An anti-material rifle in your loadout for the helicopters, so they don’t blast you while trying to get in the vehicle, is a recommendation.

4. Drive away and finish.

> Won’t bother you anymore.

Alternativly, perhaps unselecting the mission should work too, I don’t have the problem anymore with the chat. It just stops for me, after a couple times, if you’re playing different missions.

I can skip it, but it keeps moaning every day that the mission is ready or that you missed the time cutoff... Its a pain and I dont particularly want to listen to it all the time.

Oh I've done the mission. It was annoying, but I eventually got through it. My issue wasn't that it was hard or that the approach was wrong. It was that in itself a stealth approach or an action approach would make sense, but the mission is just poorly designed. Getting in isn't really that difficult on an average run. Surviving isn't either. The problems come from when you DO fail the first few attempts, you start doing the same thing over and over to see how some of the games mechanism start to fail around you. It really got me frustrated with the game. Given that this issue isn't present otherwise, I felt the mission stood out for all the wrong reasons.

You'll start noticing all the problems more often as you go along. The AI in this game is... special (read: it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ retarded and ridiculous).

The writing is bad. It has it's moments, especially the Oracle mission and when your soldiers start to wander what's going on, but then the final mission happens and it just goes completely stupid.

Silent Spade mission is same thing, mission itself = easy. But then they spawn 3 choppers on you and make sure you have to go over an field filled with anti-air. And expect you to deliver the chopper to them in a working condition.

I don’t understand the hate with this mission though.

> I beat it first try on Extreme. This isn’t bragging or anything, this is just ‘it didn’t feel that hard to do’.

> Even so, you don’t have to even fight the helicopters, you can beat the mission by ignoring them.

It was part two I hated, the part that makes you defend a truck and a guy in the middle of an open square, against multiple armoured vehicles, infantry, and helicopters, in a half non-sensical scenario in another ‘defend your position against a ####ton of soldiers’, in even less cover than the Fisher mission.

not to mention the truck can be destroyed in firefight and you have to restart again.

the first part is perfect. you have to clear the base first before taking off, and deactivate the AAs. you cant rush the mission. its totally similar how GRFS plays.

Oh sh¡t i didn't know you could just skip the choppers. But when i beat the mission it felt like Assault Horizon Legacy again and it was awsome. And i remember doing the second part of the mission first try on extreme, also not to brag 😅, but i thought part 2 was easy af.
