But since the game is released on PS4, PC and XBox One, forget it. They won't allow one console to be cut from the others ports.
In case you wonder what the contract is about...
If a game on PS4 that has Cross-platform capacity with PC allows any infraction of Sony's server or the players' consoles, the company who developed the game is 100% responssible for ALL problems related to it... even if the issue might come from a loophole or a lack of security (like a firewall) in the console's OS. Cross-Platform requires a LOT of works to allow it to be secures. Any open world game makes it almost impossible to accomplish because that kind of game run on instantiation of functions on the fly so overseeing that all parameters and function called remotely fit within a pre-determined and strick list isn't possible.
I'm not even writting about the different between how XBox Live and PSN works with data exchanges from their console. I did check, once, what kind of change would be requried for a PC game to be able to communicate with console and the cost is around 2.3x-2.4x higher than if you separate all 3 servers. This is because you have to built a conversion system that is managed by the server itself to "translate" the data sent from a PS4 to a Xbox One and vise-versa as both doesn't uses the same functions or architectures. (In otherword, double the hardware usage in the server as it will have to also act as a translators between the ports.)
However I could see PS4 and Xbox One cross platform play.
How is that "cross platform"?
Didn't know GTA V had this; thought you were talking about the save files. But now this begs the question...why would a PC gamer sacrifice the precision of mouse & keyboard for a game pad?
Its all about exclusives nowadays. Xbox and MIcrosoft want to divide not unite, Espesilly Microsoft now with this Windows10 Exclusive bullcrap and a zombie GFWL to top the cake off.
Because Rocket League already came out. Microsoft is paying for small dev's like that one(Dont get started, its a small dev team the first game no one even noticed) and if there is Another Rocket League, I am sure Microsoft will hold their hand out with a briefcase full of cash in the other.
They want to promote Win10 and the only way they can do that is by making exlsusives. The newest CallofDuty being a prime example where Windows10 users got their OWN seperate servers from Steam and Consoles.
Soon we'll need crossplatform play for windows7-8-8.1 users just to play Windows10 since Zombie-GFWL is only on Windows10.
Microsoft has said yes to pc vs ps4 vs xb1 only one holding it back is sony
that call of duty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is activision doing not microsoft
