Uplay asking for "Activation Code"
I was able to play the Open Beta without issue but the release version, I'm faced with Uplay asking for an "Activation Code" every time I attempt to run the game via Steam. Uplay doesn't even show the game in the list.

My steam is linked with Uplay. Anyone else stuck in this situation? I've been on and off with Ubisoft support but having to re-enter waiting queues of 160+ is getting old quick...

Cheers

Same issue here

This is the same issue that cropped in The Division as I recall and it was pretty convoluted. As I recall when you first opened the game in Steam a window appeared where you had to download the uplay launcher. After that loaded and opened Steam handed off the cdkey code automatically for some people and for others it didn't. Why, I can't answer. But if you open your uplay launcher and don't have an account, you have to create one. Your game name will be the name on your Uplay acct. After you create the account, open the settings section it should be in the upper left corner of the screen and be 3 horizontal bars. After that opens there is an option to activate a game by putting in the key. You can view the key in your steam library, just look on the right side of the screen and click on CD Key,

If you close both Steam and Uplay. Then navigate to your Ubisoft Game Launcher wherever it is on your hard drive then go to cache and delete the entire "Ownership" folder. That seems to do the trick.

Ubisoft Support had led me to try that last night... still no luck. I'm waiting in queue again to resume troubleshooting. I had no issue playing the open beta. I'll make sure to post back here if I get it resolved. Share the love!

Are you having this issue MontreHolic?

Could you try setting Uplay & Steam to run as administrator, then verifying your game files in Steam, restarting the client then trying again? Performing a fresh install of the most {LINK REMOVED} might also help.

Executing Uplay and Steam as Administrator fixes the problem.

Hey there,

Thank you for kindly taking the time out to share this update.

It is great to hear that running both using Admin rights has helped.

If ever we can help in the future, just let us know as we are happy to help.

Yeah, it did fix the same problem for me too! Ubisoft or Steam, please make a fix that this additional and kind of risky step isn't necessary in the future.

Kin regards,

I had this same problem and I went on a goose hunt trying to find the key under the settings=>manage=>"CD Key"(which wasnt there) which numerous videos on this topic suggested.
Finally one comment said to just restart steam and then relaunch the game it did work for me this time. Hope this helps :)

Hey StringerBell,

Thanks for sharing.
Just a reminder:

most Ubisoft games purchased on Steam do not require an activation key.
A digital license is pushed to your Ubisoft account when you launch the game in Steam for the first time, and link it to the Ubisoft account.

If you have downloaded Ubisoft Connect client along with the game via Steam, chances are this is an old, outdated version that may not be able to connect to the servers any more.

Please download and install a new version from its official website: https://ubi.li/YVY0k
Run Ubisoft Connect and Steam as administrator.
