Wonder if anyone will ever invest the time and money to create AI that can discern shrubbery from somebody in a ghille suit? Would be pretty damn cool to actually use environmental camoflauge to get through areas rather then just looking at the typical cone of vision and waiting for them to pass.
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (2004) uses complex camo system, so if you wear desert camo in the grass, you camo rating will be 20% at best. But if you go to the swamp, wear moss camo from The End and paint your face with black paint, and you get 100% rating, which kinda means that enemy will see you only if it will stumble onto you.

But concerning this game, devs can implement simpler system, like flags for example. Sort camo by type (desert/forest/urban/etc) and then generalize the provinces in the game by the environment, and flag the camos that will work best, which will dumb down the AI (like detection range parameter) if proper camo/ghille suit is used in the province you're currently in.

But unfortunately devs will never notice this and it won't make it into the game, peroid. And they probably would've guessed it by themselves, since development team isn't 10 hangover dudes doing this in their free time

It's just asthetics. Pretty sure the AI can see you just as well no matter what you're wearing, so wear what you think is cool.

The upcoming 4v4 PvP mode though....yeah, pretty sure you'll blend in quite well.

No, they dont blend, because anyone who lowers their settings for PVP (talking about going all low settings for PVP and better visibility) They have drawing range on max, but foliage nope. They can see you.
Yes, LadyVodka already mentioned this.

There's a fine line between realisim for gameplay purposes (having camo matter) and giving the player the freedom to wear what they want. It seems they wanted to go for the latter, since a lot of military shooters honestly don't offer this.

Exactly. Because I promise you if they made ghillie suits have any sort of advantage whatsoever, 99% of players would just stay in ghillie suits all the time and the game would look like a ridiculous mossman convention

Exactly, Wildlands is considered casual kind of shooter, but still it would be nice trick for players to use. And it's not like you can't change your clothes when you create the character, I switched to desert camo when I moved to Montuyoc, it doesn't give you anything but you can still have fun. Most of the recent open world games built on the principle that the player creates entertainment opportunites FOR himself BY himself.

I thought a simplified version of this was in the game?

I could be completely off base here, but it seemed when I was playing the beta that enemy vision cones did not cut through shrubbery.

Also, this sounds like that old Metal Gear Solid system where you would have a "camo index" and something like ghillie suits and camo that match the environment would help you avoid detection.

IMO the character looks better without the ghillie. Should get the option to change the apperance of your character whenever you want to :/

You can have multiple loadouts/outfits in game equipable so you can change your entire look at the push of a button.

I used environmental camo successfully. I was hiding in a bush as the Unidad were searching for me. They walked all around me and didn't see me until I stood up.

I think you just lucked out. I have tested this with various camo versions and I noticed zero difference in abilty to hide from AI.

No, it definitely works. I use foliage to hide from Unidad all the time. If you're laying down or crouching in or behind foliage, you are harder to detect. Of course, the closer they get the less you can move.

yeah I missed the "environmental" part of that which I didn't test. not what the OP was asking but interesting to know that there is some type of camo that might work in game.
