I kinda like that because i love open world games, stuff like Fallout or Far Cry im always dying for the intro hand holding bit to end so i can get out and explore the world :)
In Steep there seems to be no point to anything. Nothing is even explained. It feels rudderless.
I've tried to get into it twice and just can't.
I've played for a couple of hours and I feel exactly the same.
I love sport sandbox games, I've racked up hundreds of hours on Descenders, but Steep just feels like a convoluted mess. From the very beginning there's nothing to gently guide you in to get used to controls progressively, it just throws you in with no goals or aims. I ended up having to constantly check the key mapping options just to figure out what the hell does what.
And don't even get me started on the physics.
The only difference between riders is what they look like. There's no skill tree and the only reason to level up is to unlock events and when you reach level 25 you get unlimited free helicopter tickets (but if you have the Rocket Wings DLC the helicopter is mostly obsolete). Otherwise the only real reason to do events is to earn in-game money to buy silly costumes.
That said, it's still fun. I've spent hours and hours just picking a spot and riding/flying around.
