Game refuses to launch past splash startup screen.
*EDIT - Ubi cant fix the issue and is giving me excuses, not solutions. (Surprise!) Refunded*

This seems to be getting more wide spread as I read through various websites and forums (since the games release). I purchased this on Steam's sale two weeks ago, and sadly I have become part of it also. The game attempts to launch, shows the Uplay splashscreen. Then it instantly brings up a "Oh no the game crashed" error with no more info than that and asks to report it (which I have every time) to Ubisoft.

Things I have tried;

Admin mode.
Compatibility mode.
Verified files through Steam.
Reinstalled the game multiple times.
Drivers are up to date.
Tried some different ideas of using NVIDIA settings to force it into fullscreen at various resolutions to include windowed mode, borderless, etc.
Anti-virus exceptions for various files.
One storage device so no issues of it being in an odd location for install files to fail to read, etc.

So yeah im out of ideas, my PC's spec list is as follows and obviously it meets the minimum requirements;

CPU: i7 6700k @ 4.9GHz
GPU: MSI 1080 Ti (Stock Settings)
RAM: 16GB @ 2133MHz
Storage: Samsung 860 Evo M.2 1TB

Everyone I see with this problem has a gtx1080ti. I also have this problem with a gtx 1080 ti and I think that it's maybe some kind of driver issue?
MarSolus Aug 17, 2018 @ 1:47pm
When I tried a free weekend/trial of the game around a month or two ago it ran perfectly fine so its something recent that was implemented that I feel is causing my issue. If its a GPU driver issue that would be the better of scenarios, because Nvidia usually spits one out every other week for the most part and could potentially fix the issue.

I'll open a ticket though, but I wont hold my breath on that route working out. I've rarely had any luck with support tickets. (It's a sad truth for a lot of us). I either quit playing them and would come back a few months (sometimes years) later and the game would sometimes work, or I would just forget I even had the game altogether and eat the cash I spent (if I couldnt get a refund).

Yeah the game stopped working a few months ago. I also opened a ticket but there was no useful information.
MarSolus Aug 17, 2018 @ 3:57pm
Was contacted a short while ago on the ticket and I was instructed to uninstall/reinstall all my Visual C++ files and to make sure DirectX was updated (which I had done already but why not again right?). Didnt help obviously, so now I am awaiting another response to see what else they suggest. If anything works though I'll post it here to make sure others can try it too.

Same thing happenening to me, I could play fine in the free beta but now that i finally bought the game i havent even been able to get past the splash screen.

Quick update on what all I been doing with the Ubi Techs recently.

After they have been nitpicking the hell out of the MSINFO and DXDIAG files, they noticed 'various entries' within them that pertain to the GPU drivers, so it has recently came down to completely wiping out GPU drivers and starting completely from scratch since "kernels" were showing issues on various events relating to my drivers. >_>...Riiiight... (no other games have issues but whatever).

Needless to say, still didnt fix my issue, something for others to try though I guess. I'll keep updating this as more progress has been made incase it works for someone else.

Ubisoft support just responded to me, none of theses options worked and turning off background applications made me unable to use wifi or have sound. If u want try these and see if they help u at all.

Thank You for contacting Ubisoft. Try the steps below to see if your issue is resolved:
1. Proxy and Offline Mode
We also must ensure that Windows is not utilizing any Proxy settings which can cause connectivity problems and that Offline Mode is disabled.

- Click on the menu icon in the top left corner.
- Select Settings.
- Click on the Network Tab.
- Make sure "Always Start Uplay in Offline Mode" is unchecked
- Select the Change Proxy Settings option.
- Press the 'LAN settings' button at the bottom of the window.
- Make sure only the box checked is "Automatically detect settings".
- Click OK to save the changes.

2. Software Conflicts
Try updating your Windows Firewall, as well as updating the firmware for your home router. If updating these programs does not resolve the issue, you may need to temporarily shut-down the associated programs or bypass the router and establish a direct connection to your modem.

You can also temporarily disable your anti-virus, anti-malware, firewalls, and any other applications that are affecting your network traffic before testing the game. If you can determine which application is configured too strictly, you can then add the appropriate exception or allowance to that application to allow Uplay to communicate freely on your local network.

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) applications can also be conflicting with the game, and you will want to disable these applications to try to resolve the issue.

3. Port Forwarding
If it is not possible to shut-down your firewall you will need to configure your router and/or firewall to forward the following network ports:

Uplay
TCP: 80, 443, 13000, 13005, 13200, 14000, 14001, 14008

SteepTCP: 80, 443, 2869, 6005, 11001, 11090, 11095
UDP: 53, 443, 500, 3074, 3544, 6075

Directions for configuring network ports are specific to the software and hardware being used, and can be found by visiting the manufacturer's website.
Please visit https://support.ubi.com/en-US/faqs/000024619 for more information.

4. Background Applications
You may also encounter problems due to applications running in the background on your computer system. When playing Ubisoft games, please be sure to close all running background applications before starting your game. You can find the steps for this listed below.

- Press the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time.
- Delete anything on the Open line that you find there, type in MSCONFIG and press the Enter key to bring up the System Configuration utility.
- Look down the list of startup items (not the tab labeled Startup), and choose Selective Startup if it is not already selected. If you don't see this, make sure you've clicked on General near the top of the window.
- Once you've chosen Selective Startup, uncheck "Load Startup Items".
- Once you're done, click Apply & OK, and let it reboot your computer.
- Once restarted, make sure that any application that affects your local network is disabled.
Try running the game again. If the game loads and seems to be working, the problem is most likely related to one or more programs you have scheduled to load with Windows.

Note: Keep in mind that this is a temporary solution, and any changes can be reverted by returning to the MSCONFIG utility and re-selecting "Normal Startup".

5. Restrictive Networking Environment
There may also be certain restrictions set by your ISP or network administrator. If you continue to have trouble, please contact your ISP or network administrator for details on any specific restrictions on the previously mentioned network ports.

6. Local DNS
If you are still having connection problems, you will want to try flushing your DNS and resetting your Windows hosts file.
